I remember enjoying the novel fifty-something years ago. I also remember the film, which was pretty true to the book.

The fascinating thing was that you knew the ending - de Gaulle was not going to be assassinated - but it was suspenseful anyway.

Was I wrong, it's truly fantastic - in no small way due to Eddie Redmayne leading a great cast.

Plus it has so little to do with the book, which was great in a totally different way.

I went through the same two phases. Fantastic performances, great photography and music, whole different story.
