He had a few outstanding songs, including Me & Bobby McGee, Sunday Morning Coming Down, Loving Her was Easier, and maybe one or two others. I never though he was much of an actor, although he seemed to do well and was in many productions.

We all die sometime, just a question of when...as Paul Newman once said.

A life well lived in my opinion. RIP

Wrote great tunes, but never should have sung them himself., posted on September 30, 2024 at 03:50:47

Like Burt Bacharach in that regard.
I had the album with the song about "he's a walking contradiction," the one that played a small role in the movie Taxi Driver. Played it once. Never again.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

He was an offshore helicopter pilot. Between flights, he played his guitar up on the helideck waiting for his next flight assignment. Nice quiet guy.

Pretty much agree. I can't think of a single song of his that..., posted on September 30, 2024 at 08:43:16

I don't prefer a cover of.

I dunno. Would you say that of Dylan, Steve Earle, or John Prine?, posted on September 30, 2024 at 14:32:26

None had conventionally pretty voices, but managed to rasp and rheum their way through their songs in a convincing and expressive manner. Lenny Cohen was a weaker singer, but could still sound nice on record with enough reverb and sweet background harmonies.

All, of course, were championed by "real" singers who helped promote their careers.

srdavis2000,

You happen to know a guy named Archie? I think he knew Kris.

They were in the same flight platoon. Shared BOQ in Germany and did two tours in Vietnam.
