1957 is in the 'sweet spot' for good SciFi.
My movie this trip is 'The 27th Day'......with Gene Barry and a few others.

Aliens come to Earth and hijack maybe five people from ALL OVER.

Each is give some 'pills' which only respond to THEM and will go to any designated location and kill all humans within a certain radius.

It appears the Aliens want US to take ourselves OUT of the cosmic gene pool so THEY can take over.

The devices will be worthless after the 27th day. Paranoia rules....or do cooler heads prevail?

Tune in to find out! this is a 'classic' and is without gore or monsters. But the Aliens, are IMO, not very nice. They may have an ethical problem with eliminating humans while their time is about over.....

Rotten Tomatoes gives it a poor review, but what do THEY know?

Have some of the best location shots of NYC.
See how the city has changed over the years by watching youtuber 'walking commuter'.

Grand stuff... 107 separate location shots AND a story well told... N/T, posted on September 20, 2023 at 22:22:26

...If I were a civilization from elsewhere in the galaxy and took a look at how humans behave, I'd want to get rid of us, too.
But those methods are just too clumsy.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.

The implication was that THEY couldn't pull the trigger themselves, but had no compunciton about US taking ourselves out.

Me? I'm personally frightened of the reaction to first run LUCY SHOW which is now maybe at a radius of 70 or 80 light years......

Agonizingly unfunny. Any society capable of producing a turd like Laverne and Shirley, and then it becoming popular, deserves to meet up with Gort in painful and lethal way.

Just keep an 'eye' on the 'expansion bubble' (Radius) of broadcast at the speed of light.
YEARS is good enough.....

At some point the signal will attenuate enough that it would require a Radio Telescope with a dish the size of a football field aimed directly AT US to get it......
Our signal will be lost in the noise except under very 'directional' antenna conditions.....

To EARTH'S advantage is that we are going to lower power and more 'directed' (DSB= Direct Satellite Broadcast) which doesn't get out as far......

Any intelligent race will LIMIT RF emissions just to keep a low profile.....Which ain't US.....

This type of production keeps what is called the 'Second Unit' real busy.....The talent in that part of the production eventually should become 'first unit'.

Come on Ghost. I have laughed like crazy watching Lucy from live days. Very funny like Jackie Gleaso's Honeymooners. Laverne and Shirley was a good satire. What is so great about Seinfeld other than a modern Follies like insipid bunch of so called NYers. And let us not talk about Friends.

yes, Lucy sort of plays to a 'human' audience.

No telling just WHAT will happen when 'they' start seeing lucy AND the commercial breaks......

I suspect they visit us, if only to clean the planet OUT and allow someone else to take over the building.

Agree about friends.....which is now being redone....I saw an ad for it this afternoon.

But Seinfeld? Perfect is so many ways.....The involvement of Larry David ALONE almost ensured a hit.

For one thing, the actors never seemed like actual friends.
I Love Lucy had its moments but was mostly annoying. The later The Lucy Show with Mr. Mooney, they were painful to watch.
And Laverne and Shirley? Really? I couldn't last through 5 minutes of any episode before I'm out the door.

But what I liked best about it, the goal was never to end an episode in group hug, no crying, laughing, loving, and learning about themselves. The main characters have little if any redeeming qualities.
Another show I liked, until it jumped the shark about 5 seasons in, was Married With Children, which was to sitcoms as Watchman was to comic book super heroes.

A JTS moment ensures death of a series.
Even Get Smart went thru that AFTER 86 and 99 got married and had kids.....
But until than? the fact that both Mel Brooks and Buck Henry were the creators almost assured at least a couple amazing seasons......
Too many taglines to keep track of and the Cone Of Silence a classic running gag.....
