...related to the drug-overdose deaths of their customers? I can't say that I'm necessarily opposed, since I don't support the distribution of illicit drugs. BUT, I thought we already put into place serious penalties for drug-trafficking during our multi-billion dollar "war on drugs"? OTOH, as a result of attempts at reducing the prison populations, we are decriminalizing "possession of small quantities", and are now treating casual users (aka junkies/addicts), and small-time street-dealers/users as "victims" of a more serious crime (homicide/manslaughter). There have recently been vigils held for overdose victims, and protests at courthouses to hold the dealers accountable, but totally avoiding the issue of any accountability/responsibility on the part of the user that died. I'm sorry--if you are out buying cocaine, heroin, or pills on the street-corner (or in the office), there is no expectation or guarantee of quality or purity--and you are committing a crime. Had you survived your overdose, you should be sharing the same cell with your dealer, not treated as a victim. I don't understand the "logic" of this trend... "And today is for sale and it's all you can afford. Buy your own admission. The whole things got you bored. Well the Lord chooses the good ones, and the bad ones use the Lord"--a very dear friend for decades Michael Stanley (Gee)--RIP |

And dead is more than enough punishment for a bad choice. |
