 Im being blitzed by telemarketers. I can tell quickly because my area code is outside my normal area codes. Whenever I see a call originating from (760), then I'm pretty sure I'm getting a telemarketer. I noticed that nearly half of them originate In Escondido CA.,so I save all the numbers. There are blocks of numbers that ere very close to each other. I'm planning on a blitz of my own by figuring out what numbers in a block of numbers are not being used. Some of those unused numbers might receive a call (all numbers that do the calling,won't receive calls). If I can get a computer program that will constantly call these numbers then they might not be able to call out. I'm not sure of the legality of this plan but it would be exciting to make it work.

 They'll be informed they've called a homicide scene and to NOT HANG UP. They then get a series of questions from a dead serious Detective Mabe regarding their relationship with the deceased, last time they spoke to the deceased, the purpose of their call, their name, address, contact info, when they would be available to come down to the station, etc.. They usually flounce after 1 or 2 questions but the last cat was terrified and stayed on til I damn near ran out of questions. Credit to long departed poster Dr. Draz for forwarding the Tom Made cassette 15 year ago.

 I'll answer and often they'll just hang up (I guess I don't sound like a old geezer they can take advantage of). If we get pass the 'hello' part I'll saying something like 'can I call you back?' and they'll simple disconnect me.

Calling that number back to report them is impossible because whatever software they're using automatically blocks me.

Lately they'll call and I'll say "hold on-let me turn my TV down" and I'll simply lay my phone next to me. Hearing these idiots say "hello? hello?" is enough for me. My point meaning time is money (on their end) and each minute I keep them waiting pays for all the aggravation I've had.

 If it is NOT in the telemarketers best interest, it is probably illegal.

Somehow, I KNOW that phone companies could shut this down. The Feds have a lock on the phone system and know who calls who........

That these parasites are allowed to clog up the communications system verges on criminal.....

I'm sure glad I am on the Do Not Call List. I'd probably go from 10 calls / week to 50......They are so law abiding, as we all know.

 I'm sure that the phone company,cell provider, feds could easily trace these calls. They are hiding behind a facade of a legitimate business and can't be accused of criminal doings. Although these are almost legitimate company's they are very iritating.

 You can block any number you specify.
The calls I get are only used once.

 Unless out I might not even look at my phone when it rings. And even when I do chances are I'm not answering it unless the caller can be recognized.

It's like billboards, junk mail, TV advertising, and various other SPAM that detracts from the beauty and serenity of our lives.

The cold call has always been a problem - what gives strangers the right to impose themselves into our lives by calling our phones? It should be a criminal offense.

 If you are on the 'do not call' list, it IS a crime.

Maybe if you accept the services they want ot to buy you could use that IN COURT to get a settlement from them for such violation?

I don't know and nobody in power actually CARES. You know the crap would hit the fan if Biden started getting telemarketing calls or maybe Pelosi.

 It is, if you signed up for the Federal Do Not Call Registry. But criminals, by nature, don't abide by law.

 I get very few calls of any sort and I don't "wear" my phone so it's very disappointing not having a chance to engage with them.

Seems to be a "grow up with cell phone" thing? A few years back I had to train my kids to let the phone ring more than 3 or 4 times, especially when I was recovering from surgery.

In Grade School phone etiquette was taught and it included letting that black bakelite phone on the hall table ring 10 times.

 Telemarketers have quotas. They will be given a number of calls they need to make so the conversations are short and the auto-dialers sequence the calls to the next person in the room the calls are coming from. They have determined that the volume of calls dialed will get better results than a large number of rings.

 That's an interesting question. You would think they'd ring six times at least.

Who knows? Maybe there's a telespammer research group advising them that three is the right number.

Or is that the count for the Holy Hand-grenade? I'm confused.

 Nearly all the calls I get are the same recorded message of doom, all the bad things that could happen unless I buy the warranty.
Makes me think, the warranty is any good, why the need to use spammy phone numbers?

I get the same here.
It's always an out of state number. Mostly 039 (Melbourne prefix). When I answer, there is always a 2-3 second gap, then some hissing shitty line noise, then a male, or a female with an Indian accent asking about my electricity supply prices .....
I'm so sick of it I block them immediately as soon as the gap and the hissing starts. On my Android phone, I can hang up and block the number instantly with just two little pushes of my finger.

I feel sorry for any new Sub Continent friends or new work contacts who I may unintentionally block, but if they can't make the reason for their call immediately clear to me, they are f#ck'n blocked ;-)

You can see that for a while I was keeping records, but the numbers were not lining up in batches like you say yours do. I gave up and just blocked first, ask questions never!
