Both are general purpose transformer. One is amorphous core and one is MU metal core.

What kind of difference should I expect between them soundwise ?

I am considering to use them as line output by direct couple them to DAC chip ES9038.

Expect better clarity from the 1684. For your use, you might also be OK with the 1591 or 1527.

This is my experience, as well. The difference is not dramatic, but worth considering in making a purchase decision. The LL1527 and the unshielded version thereof, the LL1591, would also be good alternatives to the LL1588 at a lower cost.
