I hate it. I first quit it after the first minute. But then I thought I hadn't really given it a chance, so I skipped about a bit and listened to some other parts. Still hated it.

Worst desecration of a beautiful piece of music since Lang Lang did the Goldberg Variations.

But that is only my opinion.

We are both fans of Jon's talent, diversity and open-mindedness. Hopefully he'll do the same to some classic jazz tunes someday - you know, inject some classical sensibilities into them. I'm guessing the purists here will also point their Durante's in the air at those. I mean, how dare he!

LP and CD out in November, pre-orders at his website.

He intermingled classical themes with jazz standards.

None of the pastiches of classical music work for me and this is one of the more awful ones.

The way to do it is to start from scratch and create a new "classical" sounding piece.

Here's a brilliant example from Brad Mehldau with a lot of Scriabin in it. I can't find the original on YT but here's a fairly good version. A few pianists now play this with the score.

>how dare he!

It is not a case of "how dare he?" or even being offended by the exercise.

I simply don't find it appealing. For me, it is strictly about the aesthetics of the original being far superior to the "interpretation."
