30 years ago I caught him at The Blue Note NYC. Such a nice man. Great cocktail music. He signed the Pershing disc for me. It is a hit play recording. A trip is that I am now as old as he was that night

I knew he was very old and one day he would pass. Still, it's sad news. I can't begin to say how much he meant to me - I saw him twice in London. He was a fine, fine man. He used to give the waitresses big tips at the end of his booking. Maybe through running the Alhambra and knowing the business.

I particularly treasure the video attached. I've played it many times to other musicians as a model of how to enjoy being on stage and making music together. It doesn't get much better.

Thanks. That was very enjoyable. nt, posted on April 17, 2023 at 11:13:01

Including lots of established jazz musicians.

What a career and influence.
