That is a Whise bandpass sub, maybe the 1888, and built in Australia . Probably very expensive and certainly big and heavy.

Who currently makes 16 inch drivers?
None of the folks i can think of as likely suspects in pro-sound (B&C Faital, Beyma, Ciare, Celestion, Eminence etc)
Based on the edge suspension, they are probably not a large Xmax low Fs driver.

Having the exit at the center of a large baffle can be useful in a type of horn loading but that appears to be as suggested a Bandpass speaker.

The cones look like Altec.

I recall reading somewhere that Whise used custom woofers made in Australia for their more domesticated subwoofers. Maybe the seller can be contacted and solve the mystery?

I did contact the seller and he didn't know and didn't photograph the magnets when he had them apart.

Since they were close to me I was thinking of making an offer. However I doubt they're TAD, the cones don't match and I can get (but don't want) Altecs.

I found a 2-3 year old auction listing for this that suggested the winning bid was $500, so I bet you can get it for a fraction of the asking price. Do you have a use for this monster? IIRC, it measures something like 4 feet on a side and weighs about 500 pounds! It's a wonder that it ever made it to the US.

I wonder if it's the same subwoofer.
I don't have a use for that monster but if it had TAD I'd get it to use the woofers.

Drivers are made at Lorantz, in Melbourne, Australia.
