 I have been using Altec 908-8a compression drivers with GPA aluminum diaphragms for years. Recently, one of the drivers is just slightly lower in volume than the other. I thought that I was losing hearing in my right ear, but when I turned around, the problem turned out to be a slight imbalance between the drivers. What might have caused this? Is there anything I can check that might be affecting the response? Dust or something in the gap? Do ferrite magnets lose charge over time? I suppose I could use an L-pad of fixed resistors to balance them, but I would prefer to correct the problem if I can.

 Is the problem with the drivers, or something farther up the chain? Swap speaker wires and see if the problem moves or stays the same. If it moves, the problem is not with the drivers.

 I did that already. Swapped speaker wires. Problem stayed with the driver. Then I put in a different set of compression drivers, and the imbalance was gone.

 Ferrites Do lose flux over time. Measurable losses after a decade.
It's The cheapest magnetic material for genuine reason.
That said it also easily remagnetised.
