 Today I was checking out the Misco speaker driver webpage. I looked under the Misco / Oakton section. I see a 4.5 inch full range driver that lo and behold looks just like the RS5 speaker driver that Omega Speaker Systems uses. Interesting. The omega speakers spec high end of their RS5 driver out to 20 hz. On the look a like driver on the Misco website it is specked as: 90-18. Why would the high end extension be different? Thinking of buying these drivers for diy bookshelf speakers. Ger.

 I would of thought these speakers would have reached to 20 hrz on the high end not 18 hrz. At +- 3db.

 So -- two things.

1) The Omega might indeed be exactly the same driver as the Misco/Oaktron. BUT, it might just as well be made by Misco to Omega's specification, using the same basket. Or it might be the off-the-shelf Misco driver,but selected to meet certain performance criteria (which, again, would be spec'd by Omega).

2) In terms of the frequency range or response "specification" -- the test condition is important, as is the "tolerance" (plus or minus n decibels). Even giving both Misco & Omega the benefit of the doubt :) in the absence of some constraints and data, the numbers are just numbers. I am sure that the driver has some output at 20 kHz. It might be down 40 or 50 dB from midband output, but it's not zero.

Did you look at the data? It looks pretty good in the treble.
It's also not inexpensive.

Omega's gotta get their drivers from somebody, don't they?
If it is this driver, it doesn't look (to me) like Omega's cheaping out.

 $68 isn't exactly costly, and in quantity I don't see paying more than $50 for them. There are many drivers far more expensive. Not that I recommend spending more for a 4.5 inch, but you certainly can. However, with only 0.3mm xmax I wouldn't use the Misco at all, it would be displacement limited to only 75dB SPL maximum output at 100Hz. The 91dB sensitivity looks good, but not when the xmax is so short that it can't even take 1 watt.

 that IS a nice stamped metal frame s/ ... wow! they didn't bother venting the voice coil ... meh ... I'd take a 6.5 driver for auto sound over that any day, co-axial ... they'll even throw in a fabric dome tweeter

 Are these written specs? Or measured SPL charts. The former are advertising, the latter are objective data.
