 I've been using an Avantgarde Solo as a center channel in my system when watching movies. The Solo came with the smaller speaker stand and I want the taller stand so it's more inline with our listening position. I reached out to Avantgarde and they wanted ~$700 a piece for the taller stand plus shipping (putting the stands over $1K USD a piece). Is anyone familiar with an alternative for the stock stands? I was also thinking about looking around for someone that could fab metal stands but wanted to check here first. I live in the SF bay area.

 I have an Aquarium and a terrarium in my house; both required stands so we went to an aquarium store and they have a company making them on measure. They are very solid (of course) and super cheap (biggest was 90$).
I would expect such a company to be able to custom build almost anything; but if you're picky you might need to add some (de)coupling.
