I am wondering if anyone with a Marantz SA11S3, SA-10, or SA-KI Ruby has needed to have their laser mechanisms replaced. These three players all use the same laser mechanism. The SA11S3 and the SA-10 are older players at 8-10 years, depending on time of purchase, and may be getting low sacd laser outputs by now.

Early generation Marantz sacd players were almost all well known for laser failures and short laser life. The new Marantz players seem to be much better in this regard.

While I have not noticed any threads on forums about laser replacements for these particular players, that does not mean someone has not had an issue.

Just wondering......

I have a SA-KI Ruby player and I track the laser times and outputs, which is available in the Service Modes of the player. But I have no idea of expected laser expectancy.

And now with the double sale of Marantz from D&M to Sound United and then to Masimo, there is the whole Marantz Service networks reorganization.

I live in Australia and Marantz service is a reorganization in progress at the moment.

I own both the SA11S3 and the SA-10. I can't really help you though since neither have needed laser replacement. I've had the 11S3 for seven-ish years, and the 10 for 4+. The former has tens of thousands of hours on it, the latter less. The 11s3 is in my bedroom system, so it plays all night while I sleep. I'm really hard on disc players, and only had to replace the (CD) laser once, back in the 80s. I don't know what the lifespan of the laser is supposed to be, but they do last.
I'm expecting the 10 to be my last player, and your Ruby should also last a really long time. Sorry this isn't more helpful.

Not really looking for any help, just curious if anyone has had to replace their lasers.
Have you gone into Aging Mode and actually checked the laser hours and LOP values? It is quite quick and easy to do.

How can I see this information on my player? For that matter, if the player is left on and not playing discs, is the laser active and potentially degrading tje laser?

The instructions are on Page 70 of the Ruby Service Manual, if you have one.

Did you get the Service Manual and check your lasers times and output values?

nice to read that you still enjoy the SA-11S3 player.
