but when I pause a music selection, and then restart it, the sound level JUMPS up. After a few moments, the music completely stops. I obviously screwed up in my setup: help, please!

I am running Oppo RCA out to my Mac1900.

What happens if you run the AppleTV HDMI straight into your TV and play the music through your TV speakers? I know this won't sound great, but what happens when pausing? Does the Volume still jump? Does the music completely stop after a few moments?

Basically, simplify the setup to see where the problem might be.

He could connect the TV via HDMI and then run a coaxial S/PDIF cable from the Oppo directly to his DAC. That's how I connect my Oppo BDP-105D and it works great with superb sound quality.

Good luck,

Presently: HDMI AppleTV to Oppo; HDMI Oppo to TV; RCA Oppo to Mac. , posted on September 6, 2020 at 16:21:10

That's per the manual. Something in the actual set up is most likely wrong, but I double checked the manual suggested wiring.

My Oppo IS my DAC. Tks, John.

I don't know why I didn't think of that. I've had my Oppo BDP-105D for a number of years and I've never liked the sound of its internal DAC. Consequently, I've been using an external DAC for as long as I can remember. I also have a couple of friends with Oppo digital players and they use external DACs, too. Presently, I'm using a Mytek Brooklyn Bridge as my external DAC. Before that I had an inexpensive FiiO K3 external DAC, and it even sounded better than the DAC in my Oppo. Anyway, I apologize for not even considering that probably most people use the internal DAC in their Oppo players.

Sorry!

and double-checked setup per Oppo 103 manual, but it isn't the clearest.
