Yet another audiophile fantasy: the babe with her high-end audio system, which of course she does not know how to operate (too technical for a woman - look where she's positioned the speaker!), and will certainly need some help with. As has been noted before in these pages, such women do not exist in "real life"! ;-)

Here's the speaker image that was used in the photo. Rumor has it the girl was actually sitting across from the speakers in the listening sweet spot but cropped and moved to create controversy for this issue of Audio Advisor... ;)

Cheers!

just noticed the guy in your tagline pic has a mask on! Cool! I missed it because I usually visit Audio Asylum on my cellphone. Guess I'm late to the party if I'm just noticing it now on my big computer screen. Cripes, how many others have I been missing. Mine looks like a blob on a cellphone.

People who can afford the stuff are just like that girl and you can EAT YOUR HEART. I'm half deaf now but in my thirty something years of interaction with audiophiles I have not heard a single installation performing on truly reference level. Forget that ,make it excellent or very good , still nope. Most, majority of you have a middle level so so hi fi and are getting compliments for it from your budds because they don't want to hurt your feelings or they have the same level junk and don't know any better. Some (quite a lot actually ) have a totally mediocre performing systems because their wife is wearing the pants in the house the are paying bills for. Dream on

I'm coming from the same place you're (plural ) coming and my system sounds similarly mediocre to your system since it's simply too expensive and demanding to make it sound better. The difference is I know that it is what it is and you're not .

I have heard cost no object systems in specially built dedicated rooms separate from the main house with equipment costing as much as my house. It did an awesome job with large scale music. My system won't do that, but that's not what I listen to. I'm okay with what I have for what I listen to. That really is what matters.

Then you're lucky. I mostly heard systems which I had to compliment because the host was generous and wife pleasant, and food excellent. In my audacity I could have thought that having that kind of money I would assemble something infinitely better.. but maybe its all an illusion...

Nothing as far as I can tell apart from "girl" and "audiophile".

Why don't you copy and it and just randomly post it hereabouts at various times.

Maybe remove "girl" so as not to confuse anyone.

That would make as much sense as your attaching it to this thread.

I didn't comment on his system because I was just buying something from him. But he demo'ed the turntable before I bought it.

Did it sound AWFUL. I bought it anyway and it sounds terrific in my system, thank the universal spirit.

I usually don't comment on other's system unless they ask me. I'm sure everyone has had their system not sound too good at one time or another.

So effing what? It's true though the average audiophile has a mediocre system - that's what average and mediocre means. And yes some, if not most, audiophiles want others to appreciate their purchase, and I think that is human nature.

But the same thing is true about folks who spent lots of money, greater than $100 grand or more, most of them have mediocre system too. Which means the more distinguished systems from the lower price ranges can be better.

So for me it's actually sad that folks spend lots of money on a system and think somehow that establishes them a higher degree of credibility or knowledge.

There is no guarantee that spending more money is going to get you a better system and in fact I think (actually I know) it's easier to get less than you pay for when spending more money.

Big orchestral repertoire: Wagner Parsifal excerpts, Bruckner Ninth, Stravinsky Rite of Spring, Mahler Fourth. OMG - it was completely thrilling! And I'll be the first to tell you that my MCh system is not even optimally set up. So what? Even in its non optimized state, it can reduce me to tears with the right recordings played at the right level. (These were all Concertgebouw Orchestra Live recordings, 5Ch, 24/352.8.) For me, this is the kind of stuff that makes life worth living.

...that has a mere hi-fi system and enjoys the pleasure it gives. If any of you need to buy a system that's more costly than your house to give you either pleasure or realism, you have a mental disorder or are an obstinate child that's never satisfied. My sympathies, honest. Seek help or banish yourself to a garage with a Bose radio for a year. I do not speak from experience BTW, just a suggestion.

I'm sure there were some aspects of his system that he really enjoyed that you didn't appreciate because the sound was too different from what you're used to. The guy you bought the TT from would probably think the same of your system, at least at first.

I've had experiences like that in other people's homes, and shows, and dealers.

I think part of being an audiophile is a tendency to focus on little things about our system. We overlook the big flaws because we get used to them, until another audiophile or dealer points them out. We all have different priorities too.

My tirade meant to indicate that
a) a lot of people buying "audiophile" equipment or expensive equipment in general does not give a squat about audiophilia and audiophiles and especially do not give a damn what they think . They buy it because they can afford it and it usually look nicer than the mainstream black box. The add captures it perfectly and makes a perfect sense.
b) the sonic effect of those accidental installations easily rivals "carefully " matched systems proudly displayed and listed with all the details to the type of connector used... Why bother then ?
That's the reason I don't post the details of my system. Again ,why bother if the junk doesn't sound that much better than my fiance's Pioneer boombox and sometimes worse costing 100 times more?
I read the comments about the effect of all those carefully crafted systems and it's usually "almost perfect". I go then to a proud owner and listen and it's just a usual shit which should be available in Walmart for $200 and not $25k based on the final result.
I buy now like the girl on the picture. It has to look cool, a lot of gold and preferably a black acrylic with subtle lines. I then open the window , go on the porch , pour myself a glass of liquor and listen to "the system" watching the cars go by. It allows me to enjoy the music actually, especially that my hearing went down the drain and I don't visit anybody anymore and do not plan to do so.
Happy listening gents! W

It's funny but I see a lot of women here in Hong Kong into audio. One of my fellow teachers who sits beside me owns B&W and Naim which isn't really mainstream and she also writes lyrics on the sides for a few Cantonese artists who are big here but unknown to me.

I often go to audio shops here and talk to couples and the female side of the couple is quite vocal about the quality.

Albeit - this is one of the most densely populated cities in the world so one is bound to see a few more females than usual. So my numbers will obviously be quite skewed.

Although I do see more females than usual in the Audio Note periphery - their US importer is Nellie who is big into tubes. She is wonderful in person too and I have enjoyed her Acapella Audio Arts speakers with Audio Note electronics rooms.

You'd kind of have to be into Audio Note and/or factory tours to watch this as it's long. This is the old B&W plant that AN has taken over. Still, women are into audio.

I always thought CfL's babe references were to point out the cynicism of classical label marketing in promoting attractive female artists but I'm not always so sure. Most likely its T-R-O-L-L-I-N-G rather than M-I-S-O-G-Y-N-Y.

OTOH, just as Luminator sprinkles his posts with pictures and tales of young women to try to make them interesting to audiophiles (viz. old men) so maybe CfL is trying to make classical music seem more interesting:)

I would state it more simply: we all tend to get used to our systems. As for flaws, no doubt they exist in every system - but some flaws are no doubt bigger than others. ;-)

That's just a cropped photo of a woman making love with her man the technical wizard who bought the chick magnet (the stereo). The woman so impressed with seductive tunes selected by the dude was powerless to resist his proposition of love.

This is just more of the same old marketing to ugly dudes that's been used to pimp stereos since the beginning of hifi.

There are a lot of women interested in cars...... In guns..... In sports.......

But for some reason, I think more by accident than anything else, we've made high-end audio uninteresting to women...... Kind of tragic, actually.......

Or in other words, one must be interested in something in order to be good at it..... There are probably a lot of women out there who are capable of designing, setting up, or evaluating high-end audio systems, if they'd only be interested in the endeavor.

Hmm, maybe the real problem is that your hearing went down the drain before you realized it. nt, posted on May 25, 2021 at 10:56:25

This one is courtesy of StereoLife magazine, with the text presumably translated from the Polish. If only I'd known - I would never have posted that sexist OP to this thread! (BTW, I wonder if she's already "taken" - err, married.)

She looks rather. . . uh. . . demure - not normally a quality I'd associate with an "enthusast of music and audio equipment" with "experience with computer hardware and software". But, after all, Poland isn't that far from Russia! ;-)

(And for those of you tempted to make a political comment about what I just wrote, I appeal to your. . . uh. . . discretion! After all, we wouldn't want more of this thread to get. . . uh. . . "pruned", would we?) ;-)

No, the real problem is that 30 years which went to drain and nothing to show for it.

sound no better than a boombox. My condolences if that's also true for your own system. Mine is very far from SOTA but nobody would listen and think its only marginally better than a boombox.

I've helped several musician friends who did NOT wanna spend much money purchase inexpensive systems that sure as hell sound considerably better than boomboxes or mass market crap.

You seem to like exaggerating and berating.

and, apparently being an audiophile is not one of his.

Hanging around on audiophile websites and commenting on
them may be as close as he gets nowadays.

my wife was not only accepting of the intrusion of my audio system, she embraced it. not afraid to thread up the TEAC nor changing the wiriong from my Celestion County (small) to my Infinity Monitor Jrs because she liked their sound better AND they were in phase!

i miss her (passed in early '93) to the bone.
