Troy Audio sported an Great Plains 604 design that clearly bring it to another level, stacked a top a bass box. The system was extremely dynamic and musical with a deep, wide sound stage.

Here's a pic of their new outboard crossover:

Perhaps the good sound was truly due to these little gadgets, a resonator or something. There were likely 20 or more scattered strategically all over the walls.

With yet another one of those attached to the horn.

Personally, I'm not generally a fan of panel speakers, but AlsyVox surprised me. The center portion is one large bass drive while mid and tweeter drives run side by side, the length of the side with the other single wood strip. Bass, dynamics, depth, these speakers did it all. Our ladies also loved these as well.

The Pure Audio Project showed an interesting open baffle system that is actually modular. Depth and imaging were all quite impressive.

Here's a shot of how not to display speakers. These were on a turntable that rotated around and around.

Kimber was in one of the large ballrooms with a big system. A Steinway piano was also nearby. Sadly, we didn't do the 'is it real piano test', but I suspect the Steinway would win.

And here's more of the Focal line.

And last but not least, in the is the bass loud enough to annoy your neighbors category, here's Kii Audio.

Seriously, these guys had the room next to ours in the hotel and I can guarantee that Led Zeppelin sounded like they were playing live in the next room. Thankfully, there was a curfew after 6PM.

....But I didn't see the system in your top four pics......

What's unfortunate is it actually has some semblance to my high-efficiency system....... Except it has more real estate for the bottom end.

Which room was this, may I ask?

We'd only done 2 floors and little of the ballrooms the first day, so we had to go up to the 11th floor the next day and walk down about 8 to where we'd seen it again. Quickly, we started skipping rooms with monitors or typical box speakers, looking for the unusual and getting it done.

This room?

This is how I kept track of the rooms, a pic at each door.

I went back several times over the weekend. Music, music, musical.

Francois Saint-Gerard of ANA Sound (from France) produced the cartridges and phono stage/power supply for the system. On Friday and early Saturday Frank Schroeder had his custom small-footprint turntable with Schroeder tonearm. Outstanding sound. Francois played a portion of an outrageous vinyl collection, much of it from Europe and not found in the US. The monoblock amps and preamplifier were from Thrax.

Much of the cabling (and necessary room treatment) was from Synergistic. But HUGE kudos go to Setsuo Mino of a (new) Japanese cable company named ELPISPANDORA. After viewing his offerings in the ELPISPANDORA room, and speaking with him (along with one of the Troy Audio gentlemen), he was agreeable to bring over one of his hand-crafted interconnects (late Friday afternoon) to try in the system. MAGIC. Completely coherent and tonally accurate (Francois immediately heard and agreed)....and the cable was dead-cold. NO time on them whatsoever.

Mino-san's cables were insanely hand-made (many people took pictures)....all solid-core, multi-gauge offerings, each conductor (!!) covered in silk....and there were numerous conductors, joined with interim sections, all crimped within custom terminations....no solder. Late Saturday he installed a speaker cable....same improvements. WOW.

And as far as pricing....(if you have to ask, etc. etc.) VERY expensive. But the presentation....glorious.

I was on that floor three times..... I think the room may have been unavailable all three times I was up there..... I remember a room with Schroder arms, but I don't think it was this one. (You'll notice, when I post the pics, this system is not in there.)

We missed this room maybe three times for some reason. Found it on Sunday and they were having technical difficulties. :(

As I slowly slip into the dark cesspool of audiophalia neurosis. . . .

I'd need to know more about the silk before I spring for a pair.

That xover on the Great Plains 604 must surely exceed the price of the speakers themselves.

I was on the 2nd floor, had gotten back from dinner around 10 and was ready to hit the sack, and then the music started down the hall. Note to self-make sure never to book a room on an exhibit floor.

On the other hand, maybe I should have joined them-they probably had booze :)

I was so taken by the rest that I forgot to ask the pricing. A couple of reviewers I know took pics and information....likely we'll find out in show reports.

Nice coverage - I like the idea of the speaker turntable - at least you get to see all the finishes without taking up too much room.
