Just curious: Why do so many folks NOT put location (other than "USA") in A.A. ads?

When I look at ads I am often dismayed he seller has 'location' listed as USA.
Why are the afraid to even put the state? or big city?

It really matters with larger items for shipping.
Do you think it is just an oversight? Fear?
Personally I think a Zip Code would be wonderful, even a partial.. (but them just listing the State would be almost as good.
Why do I have to email them to find out?

In my used purchases I HAVE found the exact (very heavy, 80lbs, another 60lbs) item I wanted within a two hour driving distance Milwaukee Area to Chicago suburbs. Another was a set up turntable, delivered by the seller.
I would NEVER have bought any of them if they had to be shipped from Florida or California.

What do you think?

What? Don't you know? If you list your state or city, someone will read your ad, figure out where you live and then steal all your stuff. It's called paranoia.

You are absolutely right ... and it makes you wonder if there are other reasons to avoid dealing with that person. People usually have trust issues because they themselves can't be trusted.

I also get frustrated with ads that won't narrow down a seller's location. I am in Canada, and a LOT of sellers won't ship to Canada. I do however travel to the US on a regular basis, and I have often met up with sellers for local deals. Without a city (or even a state), why bother trying?

By the way, why not sell to Canadians? I sell to Americans all the time, and all it takes is a bit of extra shipping cost (that is paid by the buyer anyway) and completion of a simple customs form.

... is why American sellers fear selling to Canadian residents.

There aren't any fundamentally valid reasons why they sure have fears. PayPal and also Canada Post money orders work just fine in the USA, as do all regular credit cards. Shipping to Canada will cost more but the ads may insist that the buyer pays shipping and also taxes, duties, and brokerage. Shipping to Canada is quite reliable though it may take longer mainly on account of clearance by Canada Customs.

Perhaps some Canadian residents don't understand that there will be taxes, duties, and brokerage -- to that extent it is the buyer's, not the seller's fault if issues issues arise in these regards.

But I have had similar problems when selling to Americans from Canada. Many (or most) don't understand why they might have to pay duties on items actually made in the USA. Unfortunately it is difficult to prove US manufacture; NAFTA certificates are practically impossible to obtain by private sellers.

Agree.

On the other hand, I've sold a smaller item with shipping included to the Continental US because my location was irrelevant.

I concur- the inmates should be required to list the state in which he lives.

I had the opposite happen to me. I was interested in a set of fairly expensive tubes and the guy provided me with city and state when questioned or they were listed. So I asked him if I could just pick up the tubes as he was just a few miles away. Nope, no local pick-up I was told. That seemed fishy. I walked away.
