 Does the laser stay on when you pause your cd player?
I am concerned with laser longevity,
Am I better off to turn off cd player rather than pausing?
The Player is a Sony cdp 707 esd.....rare laser assy.

 I believe the theory is that it allows for buffering the comparatively meager memory of CD players following the real time bit correction process.

Since I use LMS on an 8 GB Synology NAS, the data stream is delivered entirely from memory. ;)

 Stan was the "S" in the original PS Audio. He told me that as long as you removed the CD from the drawer, that the laser does shut off.

So simply pausing your CD player would keep the laser active. Remove the CD, and you don't have to turn the player off.

 thanks, this is the info I was looking for....
contemplating leaving my vintage sansui integrated and tuner powered up,
rather than exercising the relays every day...

 I do both depending on the length of time expected, few days, busy week?. And I always shut my tube pwr amps off when done, period. If a lightning storm is happening I unplug EVERYTHING, I do not trust any guarantees about surges, failures, etc and don't want to go thru that hassle.

 if you just press stop, when the laser goes back to the rest 0 position it shuts off. That's on most every player, I've never heard otherwise.

 ...what I was told by a Stan Warren, who was modding CD players for a living, which was "remove the disc". We were discussing the JVC 1050, so it's possible his advice specifically pertained to that player, and I assumed he meant all players.

 Take the cover off the player, turn it on, and press
the tray open button. Locate the laser lens (just behind
the center disc spindle) and press the tray close button.
Watch for a red dot (laser) in the center of the lens just
after the tray slides back in. When the laser does not find
a disc to read, it will likely turn off (as in no red dot
visible, or laser off). I have seen this in several players,
and am under the impression the laser does not stay on without
a disc to read and/or play. But it is also possible that the
disc clamp in this player may block seeing the laser actions....

A refrigerator death is death by suffocation in a refrigerator or other air-tight appliance.  Does he imagine or dream it or does that really happen? Does he die and rest of the movie is a dream? The movie takes place in 1981, before fool-proof doors were extant. Is the entire movie a someone's dream or nightmare?

 In Virginia, it is against the law to discard a refrigerator without first removing the door. I am sure that this is the situation in most states.
BTW I addressed these issues over 15 years ago in responding to a thread about putting a picture of yourself in the freezer for improvement of the audio system.
