Along with 16,000 vinyl records! Scored by some local record store- boggles the mind.

Get ready for the big, years-long CD sell-a-thon. When one of the major labels announces this year or next that they’re no longer stamping CDs but are moving to a 100% online distribution model, there’ll be a time of consternation until the ‘music business’ decides what and they’re going to market and sell music. That will be followed by people dumping the entire CD libraries because they’ve been told they have to have the “new” medium. I’m shopping for a really GREAT vintage CD player now.

Vancouver CBC managed to donate its 31,000 CDs to 2 un-named public institutions (I'm guessing universities). So, they won't be coming up for sale any time soon.

That is in addition to 51,000 records, which mainly went to 2 individuals, many for sale through a local record shop.

I suspect CBC would rather note - but is having to do some pretty disagreeable things to cope wiht the government's cutback in its budget.

Like stopping its Radio International broadcasts last week, which had been continuing since 1945.

... it really is a shame that they gave these all up. Does anyone know what they are "replacing" the CDs with?

Probably a half dozen hard drives.

I have the PERFECT vintage play for 'ya.
An ORIGINAL issue Magnevox....Don't laugh, it is the Philips FD-1000

Of course, I believe it needs a laser. This will be a problem with nearly ALL 'vintage' CD players, I suspect. At least sooner or later.

This was the first 'audiophile' disc spinner and fathered several modded hi-end players.
