Just wonder what you forumers would advice ...if your best friend intents to blow $5k for a Bow Technology ZZ-8 CDp when everyone else is gearing up for newer bells and whistles like the universal transport, sacd, 24/96 upsamplers.
My friend's argument is that it took the 16/44 more than 15 years to get the "red book" sort out, it will be anothe 5 - 10 years more before we can draw the real benefits from these new technologies when the hype dust settles. Opinions? Comments? Reflections?
BTW, the ZZ-8 sounded really analog!

Well, he's wrong. These aren't new technologies like CD
was. The new things are more like "CD-done-right", and about
all that was learned from the past applies to them too.

Hint: let him listen to the Audio Note DAC 1.1, if his
system is compatible.

The next digital/audio paradigm shift is solid State storage. Everything "new" these days is a band aid or a stop gap till that day comes.
BTW the only REAL improvement is DSD , DVD-a or multichan , and as of yet , the dust on all these formats is still flying thick and fast (the bulldust included)
HOWEVER I wouldnt get a one box player or a player that is unable to have something inserted tween its transport and DAC as true room correction and other digital devices can make a HUGE difference to the sound.

any 16/44 I've ever heard. Far better. So much better that it is silly to compare the two formats.

I will have to agree. After hearing SACD over the weekend it really surprised me how much better it is over 16/44. The lack of software offerings will be the only reason for me not to buy.
