In the conclusion to his Parasound Halo A 21+ review Kal writes about "an amp designer imposes her will". Is there a rogue female copy editor at Stereophile, is Kal fed up with always applying masculine terms to hi-fi or has John Curl been re-assigned?

John Curl had a sex-change operation?

OK, not likely, but in could happen.

that's what I was hinting at with 'reassigned'. I am sure it is just Kal having a laugh. We know that women have much better things to do than design audiophile amplifiers.

And "his/her" is clumsy, insufficiently inclusive and implicitly hierarchical. Consider it a random choice.

The correct address for a Duke is 'your grace'. As I am not a real Duke (spoiler alert) you are excused. But, I do insist you genuflect as you hit 'post message'.

Though ungrammatical even the conservative JC of the back page of the TLS says it's ok in a discussion of the pronoun issue (Jan.31).

For the record and for the sake of accuracy, just how many female amp designers have you met over your career in hi-fi? Just curious who they were and if I missed or forgot something.

"his/her" is not inclusive enough? I can certainly relate to that., posted on February 13, 2020 at 17:36:13

"Trannie Grannie Dwarf Fetish" comes to mind.

That's a name of a song, by the way.

I just remembered one. EveAnna Manley, who I met at a Stereophile High-End Hi-Fi Show some 15-20 years ago.

Cool lady. Bought a t-shirt like the one she's wearing from her.

She married into the business but has made it her own. Don't think she designs anything. I am in semiconductors and female circuit designers are not common. I expect female audiophile designers to be even rarer because that requires being doubly geeky.

Is there a well known amplifier designed by a woman? Just curious.

When I worked for a semiconductor manufacturer, our engineering staff was maybe 1/3 female.

And in any selection, some were good and others not so good....just like the men.

Lots of female technicians, too, with a few real good ones.....But not so much in the fix-it end of

things where I can think of but ONE lady mechanic, and she was a star.

I recall a time whereby one could say "She has discriminating taste"

The mongrelization of our mores will continue because REAL morality is ebbing away.

"Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

As a gender-neutral singular pronoun, they/them/their goes WAY back before the 18th century pedants who called it ungrammatical.

One of my former English professors (female, btw) proposed the all-inclusive s/he/it.

That's the kind of conversation I was hoping for.
Was the usage you are referring to similar to the French tu/vous?

I thought tube design was take a few components, arrange them in all possible permutations and see which you like best?

Some forums have a 'duck for cover' emoji. Please imagine I have employed it here:)

I prefer 'they',myself, for a gender neutral pronoun.

Hurricane is from the Mayan for EVIL. Or the God of Evil.
Spanish adopted and slightly changed the word.

NOT a gender-thing.
