I intend purchasing both, but as I like to have my cake and eat it
I would welcome your advise on which performance to buy taking into consideration, the performances and the sound quality.

Wispelwey and his cello on Channel Classics and Sitkovetsky burning the violin on Hannsler. Both extraordinary performances and very well-recorded.

jazz1,

You might take a listen to Sigiswald Kuijken's recordings of the violin stuff. They're on a 2 CD set from Deutsche Harmonia Mundi (77043-2-RG). He's playing a baroque violin, and I really like the tone — as well as his approach. It feels more warm than hot.

I hope this is helpful!
