VanDamme microphone cable?

I've ordered a few feet of VanDamme microphone cable; it will be terminated with Monster rca plugs, Cardas silver solder
It will be used to connect my Technics sl-6 turntable (20euro) with a new AT3482P cart (30euro) so the cable needs to be as cheap as possible until I decide if it's worth upgrading ( I haven't heard the table with the new cartridge yet. I salvaged it from a flea market)

Has anybody here ever tried using microphone cable with a turntable?
Has anybody here any experience with VanDamme cable?

thanks :)

Which model did you choose?

VanDamme Classic Tour Grade XKE

Twisted pair silver-plated OFC copper
Cotton & paper wrap insulation
Tubed carbon screening
OFC copper braid screening
XLPE polyéthylène jacket

I don't have super high expectations considering the price but I might be surprised; I guess the real culprit might be the (fake?) monster cable rca plugs I bought online.

Do you have a link to the possibly fake Monster branded rca connectors? Have you terminated the interconnect cables, as of yet?

I've desoldered plugs from an entry-level Monster cable and the internal construction was identical to these, only the external casing was slightly different,
I didn't get the plugs nor the cable yet, everything is still in transit (I didn't even get the cartridge yet!) it's just the cheap price and the fact they are not advertised as monster 'cable that makes me thing they might be fake.

It seems to be a knock-off of the Monster Cable PL 2-B Phonolink 2 Standard RCA Connector with a different looking barrel, but I would not be surprised if it is of comparative sound quality, so it's likely a competent inexpensive option that should be okay for use with the inexpensive Van Damme cable, especially since the cable features silver plated copper conductors which may benefit from a possibly warm, polite sounding gold plated brass rca connector. There are certainly worse rca interconnect cables to avoid, so you might like what you hear as an inexpensive option for a phono application, with a future upgrade path to consider. Enjoy your upcoming DIY project, KanedaK!

Thanks. This will be my first foray into vinyl; considering this is a (lovely) entry-level linear tracking turntable with a (well regarded) entry-level p-mount cartridge, it's not likely to become my main source. It's more a functional means of listening to those "oh look what I found here" kitsch-disco-forgotten-french-fleamarket-finds-vinyl-records. But who knows, I might enjoy the experience and start looking for improvements!

Well I've just finished soldering the cable and it sounds great :) the plugs are indeed knockoffs but they're more than okay for the price.

I'm amazed with the sound really. I understand what viny is all about now ^^

That's good news, KanedaK. BTW, since I noticed you enjoy modifying your audio gear, you might consider a power cord upgrade for your Technics SL-6 turntable that features a removable C7 power cord. It may seem counter-intuitive that a power cord for a turntable motor must not make a sonic difference, one way or another, but this is not the case. Replacing the stock power cord of my Thorens TT made a very big impact for the better.

Since your Technics SL-6 turntable features a removable C7 power cord, you won't need to deal with a hardwired power cord swap. If you measure the clearance of the power cord AC inlet located at the back of the Technics SL-6, I may be able to recommend a C7 connector that will clear the size of the opening for a DIY power cord project. Otherwise, there are aftermarket audiophile power cords that feature a C7 connector if you are not interested in a DIY build.
