 So I'm jamming away to Tower of Power 40th anniversary cd when my rig
goes silent. I notice that the play indicator on my linestage is off.
I pull the fuse and get my meter out - it's ok, check the power cord as
everything else is lit up - 122v and ground, so I pop the hood. I have
current thru the IEC to the board, I have ground thru the 3 way ground
selector switch to the board, I have current and ground to the
transformer but nothing out, this where I stop.

Mark Deneen the designer and builder is retired and no longer active.
Mark gave me contact info for someone capable of working on this. I
have emailed him but haven't heard back yet (not even 24hrs yet),
but I would like some options as having options is always good.
There are some other issues I would like addressed as well as a few
improvements I'd like to make, I need someone good to bounce a few
things off of. Any help from the asylum would be greatly appreciated.

 Sorry about misspelling Audio in subject line, I've been shoveling
for 4 hours and I'm closer to dead than I'd prefer. Can't edit it
and don't have energy to repost.

 Thanks for the recommendation. I have contacted them and I'm waiting to hear back from Bob. If it happens this would be great as they are 50 - 60 minutes from me so no shipping.

 That close it is a very easy recommendation.

They did some upgrades and modifications to my cj premier 12's. Easy to deal with and first class service, efficiency, and workmanship.

They explained what they recommend, why, and when done I felt it was easily worth the money. Keeping the cj's till I croak and passing em on to the kids/grandkids.

If you cannot get ahold of them or need another option I had Bill Thalmann upgrade a cj preamp years ago and he was great to deal with and it was a very fair price for the work.

Either of these two outfits will take care of you.

 Thanks to all who responded, lots of great info here. I didn't hear back from Bob yet, hopefully tomorrow. Thanks Hyfi and Steelhead for the recs.
going in blind never gives one a good feeling.

Thanks to Coytee for the wiring dia. I think I'll wring this out Saturday morning and see if I can find the culprit. Info is power, it may make sense to go ahead with his "Green Force" power supply mod if it does need major work on the power supply. The electrolytic caps in the power supply are almost 10 yrs old and I was thinking of having them replaced, this mod eliminates them in favor of 2 VH Audio teflon V-caps.

 I live about a mile from Bob and he brought my Counterpoint amp back to life when I got it. His shop is fun to see with all the CJ and other tube gear open with beautiful mods going in.

That's great you are within driving distance, you won't be disappointed.

 So I spoke with Andy of RHB today. Andy is Bob's business partner in his line of preamps as well as his coordinator for mods and repairs. Bob told him "Sure, tell him to bring it over and we will have a look". I'm calling Bob tomorrow to arrange a time next week to drop it off and tour his workshop and showroom. I love road trips. I'll keep you guys updated.

 I spoke with Bob yesterday, very easy to talk to. At this point
I'm taking it up on Wednesday. We will see what the doctor has to
say and go from there. There are some issues with the Peach which
I will talk to him about cleaning up. I'll keep you guys in the loop
as we go along and again thanks for the recommendation.

 Well I just got back from RHB Sound Dezign where I dropped the Peach 2
off. I got to meet both Bob and Gary, both are really personable, down to earth guys. I spoke with Bob at length about the Peach and the issues
I'd like to clean up in addition to the repair. We spoke about log
tapers on volume controls, caps, tubes and a lot of things audio.

I got to listen to his Backert Labs Rhumba 1.2 and I must say for the
entry level preamp it is pretty impressive. Dynamic, resolving and fast
while giving you the depth and soul (for lack of a better term) that a
good tube pre provides versus a SS pre IMHO.

As I stated earlier there are some issues with the Peach that I'd like
addressed. My plan is to fix it (DUH) and within reason clean up
the issues. I think at that point I would like to an A/B using my
system to see which I prefer. I really love the Peach, BUT, this is the
2nd time it has gone "tits up" in 9 years, so to be "married to it" so
to speak would be foolish. I also like that at $3300.00, the Rhumba 1.2
is completely upgradeable to the $5500.00 top of the line Rhumba in
steps or all at once. Bob told me that even the auto tube bias circuit
from the Rhythm (his 7500.00 preamp) can be incorporated if desired.

I'll see what Bob has to say and go from there. I feel that the Peach
is in excellent hands - thanks for the recommendations and I'll keep
you guys in the loop as this evolves.

 Well I just heard from Bob. It seems that the low voltage power
supply is the issue, the bridge rectifier as well as the cap that
feeds it. He also advised me that there are a number of resistors
that he feels are suspect. He also feels that at 9 years old that
the high voltage caps could stand a refresh.

I gave him the go ahead to fix the issue and find out why the
left channel has always been somewhat weaker than the right.
Although adjustable via the separate l/r gain controls it has always
bothered me. If this isn't a costly issue then my tactical plan is
to go ahead and do it all.

My strategic plan is to audition his Backert Labs Rhumba 1.2
straight up against the JMA Peach 2 and see what is what.

Thanks again to Hyfi and Steelhead for the guidance, I'll keep
you guys updated.

 Thanks for the update.

The Backert Boys made significant updates to my 12's. While not SET they have balls and sound much better than stock to my ears. (and also to friends familiar with the 12's both pre and post update)

Let us know how it all pans out. While I am set on a preamp interested in your take on their preamp.

 Ok here we go. I spoke with Bob today. The problem in the low voltage power supply is fixed. He has identified the left channel gain issue as a
faulty interstage film cap. I gave him the ok to fix these as well as
installing an additional pair of input rca's into the case for #1 input. The
glaring weak link (imho) in the design is that all the rca's are soldered directly
to the rear of the PCB which protrudes out of the back of the case. The
issue is that I now use High Fidelity Cables interconnects that are
extremely tight so you are playing with fire when connecting or removing.
He is also going to replace the suspect resistors that he has identified.

Again my plan is to get this home to run in for a while and then
put it up against his Rhumba 1.2 and see what is what. I will keep you guys posted.

 I have a feeling that his Pre Amp is a Giant Killer. Since he has basically built in all his own mods as a new item, it should be stellar and worth every penny.

Let me know when you come to pick it up, if times sync, I am a mile away.

 I will do that. When he finishes with the Peach I want to get it
home and give it a few weeks to settle in and then give it a go against
his Rhumba 1.2 to see what I think. I really like the fact that his
products all use the same basic design, so stepping up so to speak is
easily done whenever desired.

 Bob called yesterday and the Peach is done, as I had today off I
picked it up. Charges were extremely fair imho for what he did and
not a mark on it. RHB is just a 1st class operation. Bob and Gary
are very easy to deal with, explain the needed repairs in detail
and offer options.
I elected not to do any mods as I made plans today to audition
his Rhumba 1.2 in my system. This will probably be in 2-3 weeks.
I'm listening to the Peach as I'm typing this and it sounds
stellar!!! I now realize that things were going away over a period
of time as it had started to sound flat and shallow, but wow does
it sound great now. Again my highest recommendation to RHB and
many thanks to all who posted, also a big shout out to Hyfi and
Steelhead for recommending RHB. I Will start a new post When I
get the Rhumba home.
