of what my Dyna 20XLs could give on the 1200, until I heard it on the Thorens. The 1600 comes closer to the TD-150 due to the Cardas wiring and strobe disabler.

Table, arm and cartridge I have $450 in my TD 150, SME 3009 and Denon DL 103. I'd still consider the 150 a $300 - $400 table that can handle a $1000 cartridge. But then again IMHO the 150 is a table deserving of its reputation.

I think we both agree that a better turntable CAN bring out more of what the cartridge has to offer. I experience that in my Clearaudio table vs the Technics.
But, my main point is that even if you have a very modest turntable (stock SL1200 for example or maybe a low cost Rega or Music Hall) you will still benefit from a great cartridge. If I were under a tight budget, I would invest MORE in the cartridge than the turntable.

before the cart. I'd look at the KAB arm damper and also the phono preamp. THEN, I might consider a cart upgrade. But only then.

I agree Abe.
