john, ill assume harry weisfeld has researched the ultimate effects of the synthetic oils. brooks is another whom i trust. not to say that your choices arent also valid.
i just think the synthetics molecules are possibly more durable. i used to use singer seewing machine oil with great success.
the important thing is to be sure to oil the things properly in the first place.

Why did you switch from sewing machine oil (machine oil) to motor oil?

vpi recommends slick 50 and i just acquired a hwi9III/smeIV/sumiko virtuoso dti vdh. thats why. ;^)
