Well, my three year old took out my third VN5 stylus in two years. Since I'm not going to be finding another one real soon, I need some advice.
My VN5 was perfect for my system and listening habits- equal infusions of late 60's and 70's rock with classical and jazz (Wes Montgomery,George Benson etc). I use fully restored Marantz equipment from the 70's with a Thorens TD125, so the VN5 just seemed to fit, if you know what I mean. So, I'm wondering, what would be a good fit in MM cartridge, or, if I have to, I can go to MC, but I prefer the sound of the MM.

You probably know this, but since it is a little unusual, I thought I'd just run it out again.
Shure runs a one year guarantee, so check your purchase date. Anything that effects performance is covered under a guarantee. All they ask, beside purchase proof, is that you send them what is left of the part, to avoid abuse.
My retailer sent Shure an email of my receipt, since I didn't keep it, and Shure was more than nice.
As a matter of fact, it was customer service that helped me get a new tip, as I had just inquired about buying a new tip for the one I broke. I contacted them two weeks before my coverage ran out, although I did not know it at the time.
Just to update, they are completely gone from Shure--their excuse for not holding onto replacements for prior owners was that "the demand was just to high".
Thanks--I'm going to try that on Monday. I bought this latest styli about a year ago from the Needle Doctor, which isn't far from my house. At the time they assured me that there were plenty still around!!!! So I did not worry about it.
I haven't given up on it yet. I will get another, but I need something my three year old can kill without making me feel like crying! I was just over at LP Gear's website and found that JICO SAS has a stylus replacement for the M97xE--the M97xE also fits the V15xMR cartridge. So now I'm wondering if anyone has tried any of the JICO styli and what they think of them.
I know aluminum and boron are not Be, but maybe it's really really close?
It is smooth, like the V15VxMR, and possibly a bit more dynamic and open.

I live about 5 miles from the Needle Doctor--they push the Grado Gold or Platinum as a replacement. I take it you don't agree?

Thanks Henry, I'll give it a shot.
I think I'll get a another Shure (90.00) and a head shell as a spare to have in case he climbs the cabinets again.
