I am going for 3 days in Amsterdam this week.
I wil have no transportation of my own so it needs to be in town.
I will not be alone and I can't drag the all group of friends to look for vinyls.
Follow Ups:
as an amsterdam resident, i second rene r's suggestions. concerto is the best overall place and should be your first stop. recordmania on the ferdinand bolstraat is a more than decent all around shop, and is a good second stop. the place by the paradiso/leidseplein specializes in jazz and pop and can be expensive. the place by the norderkerk is called flesch and i haven't been there for a long while. they specialized in classical but the last time i was there they seemed to be moving toward pop. they're the smallest of the 4 shops mentioned. concerto and recordmania are mostly in the 10 euros per record or less range, with lots of 1/2 euro bargains.yes there are many thriftshops and such but i wouldn't recommend wandering around in the hope of finding a good place, unless you've got lots of time to spend on wandering.
good luck
On Westerstraat they have a lot of alternative pop. And if you are into that you should go there too.

There is a record store next to Leidseplein on Weteringschans opposite Paradiso. They have a lot, but I never have something for myself, and they are not cheap.
Record Mania is on walking distance from Concerto on Ferdinand Bolstraat that is the street next to the Heineken Museum and square.
A smaller store can be found on the Noordermarkt behind the Noorderkerk.
Also interesting are the Kringloop stores, but these are thriftshops and not in the center. But if you want to visit one store, go to Concerto.
Check out Utrechtstraat, between Rembrandtplein and Frederiksplein - tram 4 takes you there from Central station. There are a couple of music stores along the six short blocks (or rings) that the street runs. I can't remember the names of them, but one is quite large, has lots of classical vinyl, I believe a fair amount in other genres, and lets you listen anything you want to buy on their turntables. There are some nice cafes up towards Frederiksplein as well.

Last time I was there you didn't need transportation.
Hop on a tram if you need to, but, everything is
in walking distance. Can't remember specifics, but, record shops were
easily accessible. You might want to page The Flying Dutchmen.
Sometime he reads this bored, but you are
probably better off leaving a message on the
Rock bored.
