I picked up the Thermals album last night at the antepenultimate Sleater-Kinney concert in Portland (my right ear is *still* ringing) and I found the Midnight Oil in my collection, still sealed, in translucent blue vinyl. Both sounded great (although completely different in composition).

Sorry about the bad word in the prior post, but that *is* the actual title of the LP.

To my mind, Haden barely misses in any of his collaborations. How is the sound of that? Is it a sleeper, sleeper?

The next after the Byrds.Buddy Holly on a nice piece of Vinyl with a large piece of sentimental value.
A most needed listen.
I have now listened to the Buddy Holly, using my Pioneer Sx-1010 with a set of Pioneer CS-99 Speakers. I have now placed on the Platter Moody Blues "Question of Balance" Sweet Vinyl... Wonderful Record.I'm very pleased with the sound of the system.
It seems that the records that I have played tonight on the turntable go very well with this match and I listen as I type. For the time being.. My Sansui G9000 is in need of repair, but the Pioneer 1010 sx has never disappointed. If you have ever debated whether to get a 1010, I'll put my 2 cents in and say buy it quickly. Fantastic Receiver.
You'll have the tunes from those LPs in your mind for WEEKS!At least that's what happened to me a couple months back! What a great record(s).
If I had more money, I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LP's!

a couple of weeks back sent us a freakin robotic duck that dances while it plays --disco duck-- at an incredibly loud volume !!our 2yr old and 5yr old of course cant get enough of it.
its even more pathetic because its neck was broken in shipping so the kids lay it on its back so it can dance.
i hated that song when it came out and and now its just mind numbing.
tonight my wife said --i think that duck is going to loose its batteries tonight.--

Bought this one a few months back and it sat in the "to be cleaned file". Well as you may have guessed, it surfaced and WOW!Yer right MM, it will get another spin before long. Certainly not what I expected from Mr. Corea, but damn it! Fine stuff, indeed. Who's that dude on bass? I've traded-in some Corea LP as they bored me, but not this puppy.
on this 1950 RCA J-3 45 changer I just rebuilt... installed a Stanton 500 AL bridged for mono... sounds great!

I thought Columbia didn't release the first 7 inch 45s until 1951, yet you say this changer dates from 1950. I'm just mentioning this out of curiosity, in hopes that you or someone else might be share some further info about this wonderful TT. Thanks!

RCA brought the 45 rpm record and players to the market in 1949. This particular model was only offered during the 1950 product run when RCA had three different changers in the line up. Outsourced (even back then) to the Oak Company for manufacture, the J-3 is very well made with a ball bearing spindle for really smooth and quiet operation. The changer will accomodate 12 to 13 records at a time and really sounds great... idler drive and low rumble to boot!

Paul Simon - Graceland

and Rober Palmer "Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley". I just scored both at the used record store yesterday.

Just got minimum maximum 4 disc live set on vinyl, which is nice. Also got a reissue of the 1974 Autobahn -- what a horrible pressing -- there is a lot of noise and even dimples like indentations from a BB gun on the surface -- oh, well!

Pulled 62 LPs as possible cull candidates. Make that 61 now as I am keeping the Taste of Brass.Next up Graduation Ball with Doriti on UK Decca.
I have overfilled my space by 30 LPs, I want to cull at least 50 LPs that way I have room for must have future LPs such as Speakers Corner upcoming 180 Gram remaster of Harmonia Mundi's La Folia de Spagna. I got Speakers Corners Tarentule-Tarentelle as I could not win this or La Folia de Spagna original Harmonia Mundi's on eBay as they get silly expensive. I did get Harmonia Mundi's Ancient Dances of Hungary and Transavania for $12.30 including shipping. So when I get La Folia I will have my three favorite Harmonia mundi's on LP. La Folia was the hardest SACD I parted with as the LPs go over of $50.00, ouch. Speakers Corner to the rescue! Based on Tarentule-Tarentelle the Speakers Corner LP will totally smoke the SACD.

Happy listening,

Stuck in the office today (5.1 CD only), though I will be hitting the thrift stores this afternoon.

And how was your trip? I think you mentioned going record shopping while out of town. How did you do?

Hi Dan,Here is my report on the vinyl in Boise:
http://db.audioasylum.com/cgi/m.mpl?forum=vinyl&n=561056&highlight=Boise+rgordonpf&r=&session=
I brought back 65 LPS. My brother bought 40.
Did pretty good this afternoon in Hillcrest (two thrifts shops and a used LP store), got 45 LPs all for $1 each. The best find was a mint Morricone: The Mission. Also got some George Thorogood, Leon Redbone, Doobie Brothers, Leo Kottke, Its a Beautiful Day Live, Herbie Mann, Jean-Luc Ponty, and some neat soundtracks. Its really great to find NM and M- LPs of great music for $1.
If you want any Pat Methany on ECM I left about ten different ones in the $1 bins - all in NM or better.

Guess I missed that post. Thanks for the link!Looks like you really scored, both while on your trip and again, here in town.
I've not gone on a vinyl binge like that since my days at SD, when Rich and I used to drive up to LA on our days off, so we could stock the store with cut-outs and the like. Always came back with just enough money to stop along the way for lunch and a brew - but only just enough. The van, on the other hand, would be riding pretty low.
