i finally got my neil young "living with war" 200gm LP from themusic.com and have to say that i'm a little upset with the "hand select" service.the vinyl was cleaned very nicely and all but i think by putting the vinyl in a plastic sleeve and then back into the inner sleeve and into the record jacket itself, it did some major damage to the top and bottom of the LP jacket. i think normally when the record is shipped the static from the paper in the innersleeve "may" help the vinyl from moving around during shipping to prevent seam splits on the top and bottom of the record jackets. not always foolproof of course. but i think by putting the record in a plastic innersleeve and then shipping it the way themuisc.com did just allowed the 200gm vinyl to move around alot more and poke 3 inch seam holes in the top and bottom of the record jacket.
i have emailed themusic.com and suggested that they may want to ship the vinyl outside of the jacket (in a sleeve) to prevent this from occurring. i think they are a good company, but a little surprised that they didn't think of this happening.
has this happened to anyone else?
Follow Ups:
I have my own issues with TheMusic (esp, lack of communication), but, contrary to some assumptions below, the hand select service is free when you buy an audiophile release. You just have to ask for it.

I've posted similar comments before, but it bears repeating: The very idea that a company marketing and selling already expensive product lines touted as "audiophile" would offer an even more expensive alternative is absurd and an insult to its customers. Implied, of course-at least to this several times abused purchaser- is that you are not necessarily going to receive an acceptable pressing if you just buy the non-"hand select" version. At these prices decent pressings should be a given, since the highly touted sound quality of Classic's offerings is too often ruined by the lousy surfaces (Or whatever the problem is).I've been disappointed more times than not by Classic LPs and intend to exercise my right as a consumer to simply avoid this company's wares.

Now that word of Classic/RTI's complete indifference to producing a product with anything approaching consistent quality is spreading, they offer a special premium service where the customer is asked to pay an extra, what...15%? over the already exorbitant price just to get a decent copy without scratches, fingerprints, and warps?
Anyone know the reason for Classic Records recent problems w/ Quality Control? I haven't bought any Classic LP's for some 6 or 7 years now. The ones that I did buy back then were all pressed in the mid-to-late 90's. At that time, they pressed 180 gram records of outstanding quality. Some of the titles: Dave Brubeck- Time Out, Sonny Clark- Cool Struttin', Tina Brooks- Back to the Tracks, Billie Holiday- Distingue Lovers....each one, a perfect pressing with outstanding sonics to boot.So it is somewhat surprising to me to read about their disturbing lack of quality these days. If anyone can fill me in, I'd appreciate it.

have something to do with the 200g process. All of my lighter ones have been fine. Plus - I note elsewhere - that they do NOT use mold release. Hmmmmmm - I wonder -------

No kidding! I have to want a record damned bad to spring for a Classic. It is the price because I wouldn't mind paying it, if I actually got what I paid for. Thing is, I have several around here that are essentially unplayable. There is nothing I despise more than being ripped off, and that's how I feel about Classic Records.

I have written them. It took several emails and 2 calls to actually speak to someone. I still haven't gotten an answer on definite replacements. He is in contact with someone at the parent company, Classic Records. I have asked for replacement sleeves.Send an email to raymond.limon@themusic.com
Tell him that I saw your posting on Audio Asylum and that I recommended he get in touch with you this way, and that it mirrors my experience, okay?
If anyone else has a similar experience, please also follow up with Raymond. He would need to know if there is a mass problem.
Augh!
They hand selectedly damaged your sleeve!
Did it cost extra?
Grrrr....
