Here is something I have been meaning to get done in the last couple of months, and it's finally completed. The Wall Mounted DIY turntable shelf to aleviate the 'ol fott fall problems. Works like a charm.

Follow Ups:
Yeah, I just stained it and put on 6 coats of a Polyurethane finish.Wanted it to look like the rest of the furniture in the room...

I have that same technics SL Q3 'table---sweet wall mounting btw!-and I must say that die cast metal plinth alone, for me,is nicely damped(way better dampened than my heavier JVC's).It's a sharp looking turntable, also. What type cart are you using on it?
the only differences are the Q3 has the memo-auto repeat function and it's a full automatic(start/stop)-----but it's basically the same 'table....STILL, how do you like it?

I really like the SL-Q2, your right about the Plinth, it's very good at isolation. Can't beat the Quartz control for a rock-steady speed. The Cartridge is an Audio-Technica AT211 with an AT216E .3 x .7 Diamond to ride a but deeper in the groove and eliminate some pops/clicks from the Thrift Store records. And it does this very well at some expense of a lively high end (a .4 x .7 diamond has more sparkle in the high end but also picks up the pops/clicks more).
Also there is an AT-92E .4 x .7 cartridge already mounted in a Technics headshell, I use this one for a few vinyl's that are warped and the 216 diamond has a hard time tracking. I will run the AT92 at as much as 2 grams to track these,
Yes, the plinth very pleasantly surprised me on the SL Q3!Dead-on Quartz speed accuracy? You betcha(in fact I went and bought a second one for another room setup).I got it from an eBay seller a few years ago ($50 I think?)...It's one of the nicer and sturdier, heavily built decks that share some of that 1200/1210MK2 heritage---in-home-use version of the 1200?.I would say the Q2 and Q3 are closer to the 1600MK2,but the 1600 has a spring like-floating double isolated suspension(2 sets of "isolators" and TNRC damped)and soft logic computer control functions and a servo operated arm...Only things the Q2 and Q3 lack are the tonearam height adjuster and pitch control---but no big thing to me.If I need to adjust VTA I use different mats of various thickness. It still looks like a modern deck even with it's silver-grey paint job and s-arm.In fact, it fits in with a lot of newer audio-video gear that are now using that retro brushed silver/aluminum and champagne component 70's look.
Soundwise, when I've compared the SL Q3 to some of my other 'tables(within the Technics line)The bass is cleaner, a little tighter, BUT a tad warmer with the highs and openess---overall, it's a clean sound no matter what cart I use (to me the sound can be quite tame---not lame---when it goes against my modded livelier sounding 1600MK2 or stock SL 5300,though).So, the AT 440ML(tracked at 1.25-1.5 normally---maybe some records at 1.8) being a bright cart and somewhat bassy that it is,to these ears, is a great match or "synergistic" match for the Q3 ;-)
Kindest Regards,
Thanks matt67bianco...I agree with your assesment of the SL-Q2 / Q3
May I add sir, that very carefull/precise leveling of this table seems to eliminate any objectionable low groove rumble that is normally associated with DD. And really makes 'er sing well.
I enjoy mine everyday of the year for a couple of hours a day.
Cheerswelly
I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast at any time". So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.
to suggest to give it a real nice finish, there is the finishing laminate of real thin wood that you buy at Home Depot. All you need to do in use a clothes iron and press it on. It is use to give the edge a real nice complete look. Just ask the guy at Home Depot and he'll know what your talking about.

You're supposed to have a tangled mess, aren't you? C'mon over, I'll show you how it's supposed to look!Really, the shelf looks great (but you need to hang some wires back there...just use some old extention cords, they don't need to plugged in to get "that" look!)!
If I had more money, I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LP's!
