My wife and I a in the local Thomasville store, working on ordering some furniture for our new house. The background music is some cool Jazz. Our saleswoman sees that I'm pating more attention to the music than the fabric swatches and says to me: "So you like jazz?"
I responded affirmatively. She then says: "My ex-husband is Jimmy Smith." This resulted in an hour long conversation about Jimmy, who used to visit their apartment, and the state of Jazz today. My wife was happy picking fabric while we talked.

    From what she said, this was back in the 60's into the early 70's.... Miles, Monk, Heath.... She said she met virtually everybody that was passing through NYC at the time.
    I was commenting about what passes for popular jazz these days - jazz lite so to speak (think Kenny G, Rippingtons, most of the GRP stable.) According to her, Jimmy never really got into the jazz rock scene, so her reference was Bop and Cool. She was frustrated that people (general population, not us :))really didn't know anything about the older generation and that to them jazz lite was real jazz.
    She didn't dislike the music per se, she just didn't get as much out of it. I had to agree with her.

      I agree, too, although there are guys like Rick W. that are putting out music to our tastes, such as "Castaneda's Dreams" which I have recently ordered.:)

    Looking at the "heat" map on the Weather Channel, the only green (cool) spot is in the extreme north-west!
    There's no escape! Resistance is futile! I sure hope they don't do the rolling black-out thing! I'd imagine electric usage is at record breaking levels!
    If I had more money, I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LP's!
