Watched this DVD last evening (a great film) with soundtrack by Mark Isham. In musician listing in the credits, the bari sax player is Adam Peppers! A Google search turned up the only reference being "The Cooler". How's that for circular logic? So, was this a sly tip-o-the-hat to one of the best? Simply tongue in cheek? Anyone have a clue?

Should have known better. You love the minuta!
Maybe that guy that used to play with Isham in the band, United Front. Can't think of his name. It isn't the one and only P Adams on that soundtrack, though.

It was Mark Izu, the bass player, who was in United Front; not Mark Isham, the trumpet player. But they both are from the SF Bay Area and both have done soundtrack work, so I understand the slip.
The sax player in United Front was Lewis Jordon, another under-rated, long-time SF jazzman. I don't remember him playing much baritone, but it might be.The original poster could email Isham with the question, and I am sure he would answer when he has a chance.

... in theory, practice and theory are the same; in practice, they are different ...

Pepper Adams died in 1986. The Cooler was made in 2003. So unless, the movie used some of his old recordings, reports of his demise are either premature or he's working as a zombie to fulfill his last record contract ;-) .
