Got a complete NM 6 Lp box off the fleamarket a while ago. I already had 3 of them on Argo/Decca but so what. Great composer who survived them all, Mozart, Beethoven!

She Wants Revenge? They're like a current Joy Division knock-off, though you can actually understand their lyrics a bit better than Ian's.
Yes I have that release on CD. I do see the influence. I enjoy some of the tracks but I'm not too fond of the drum sound. Also, Interpole reminds me of Joy Division a bit. Thier first release is less commercial and worth a listen.
Hmm, I like Interpol's first too - funny, I hadn't caught the Joy Division influence, I'll have to give it another listen!

And I thought I was the last living one on
the planet... ;-)I have most of his releases on vinyl. My favorite
is the live Artistry album. How 'bout you??
Thanks for the tip. Being a big Fender Rhodes fan I always loved "Prelude".
Whirlwinds is good too!

OJC re-issue though.

It is. I put it on and tried to get started on something else, but had to sit down in front of the speakers as soon as "It Never Entered My Mind" came on; such a great jam. It's funny, though, how the album label tries to look authentic, but just doesn't look..."old". Enjoying it nonetheless.

Arbeau's Orchesographie - they dropped the great title when they released the CD.
Waaaay back in college (20+ years ago) my friend and I walked into Colony Records looking for this, although all we knew was "It sounded real medieval, man" then we hummed a few bars of what we had heard on the radio. The guy said, I think this is what you're looking for, opened it, played a track for us, and we bought it and walked out, marvelling they had been able to figure out what the hell we were talking about.
I owned the turntable, so I inherited it when we graduated.

Klemperer on Allegro. I still think I prefer Klemperer's measured tempi although Walter is very good, too.

need to unseal my sealed Klemp reissue. Listened more to his 3rd, 5th and 9th. 5th too stately.I have Walter's stereo CBS in 3.5 formats (original 6 eye, odyssey LP, SACD only and Great Performances rbcd). linked is my uncle's mint 6 eye copy, which sounds very good!

my favorite Gary Numan album. ATCO. Gonna get my friend's Beggars Banquet version to compare.also, a German RCA 'Man Who Sold The World'. both finds from Half Price Books today.

Never listened to this one, and it's pretty good stuff. King is one of those artists that just never made it onto my radar, probably because I'm about 10 years too young to have been into her during her heyday. This is one of a bunch of cool older albums I've discovered as I go one-by-one through a 300 album collection I bought a month or two ago. I'm going through a bit of a dry spell at the thrifts, so this is keeping my new music jones from getting too bad.

but my copy is VG only, with some clicks. I wore it out a bit. Also, try Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell.

I wore out that record on our Panasonic stacker back in the 70s, now have it on CD, still love it.All the thrift copies I've run across are trashed, so it seems everyone else played the hell out it too!

I found a near mint copy of Alexander O'Neal's debut album 2 nights ago at my local used record store...Very underrated album and artist IMHO!From 1985 brings back a lot of great memories. The opening track A Broken Heart Can Mend is an all-time favorite O'Neal track of mine next to a few others and Criticize off of his Hearsay album from '87 (extended 12" Critical Mix version). He is an excellent and truly talented vocalist...I've got all the SOS Band albums, SOS III,Sands of Time,On The Rise, Any Way You Like It and some others(I've even framed a couple of their albums for the awesome paintings and artwork from On The Rise and Sands of Time in those lp display frames)---Fantastic old skool R&B/Funk from the 80's!Those were the real "jams" as the youngins used to say 20 some years ago...
To me,those were the albums that not only was the music incredible BUT the artwork and paintings that went along represented the "whole package" deal! Made everything tangible;unlike downloads of today and MP3's, and even cee dees....
Love the slogan from the Tabu records company those were released on; "The Earth Has Music For Those Who Listen"
Best Regards,
Matt67B.
I have Cherrelle, another under-rated female vocalist and a crate of Flyte Time vinyl productions inc Alex O'Neal, Cheryl Lynn, Janet Jackson, Force MD, Michael Jackson et al. Top notch productions and vinyl mastering. However, the music tends to sound the same (signature rhythm) from artist to artists. Millions sold. As you may know by now, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis is one of the industries most successful music producers, based in Minneapolis, proteges of Prince.Playlist:
- SOS Band: The Finest, No Lies (Ep)
- Alexander O'Neal: Brothers in Rhythm remixes (Ep)
- Chante Moore: Chante's got a Man promotional (Ep)
that unmistakeable "Jam & Lewis" trait or the Minneapolis Sound which was Prince influenced but very much Jam and Lewis' Flyte Tyme trademark at the same time...Flyte Tyme/Tabu Records always used state of the art technology for their music studio productions which to some listeners became the R&B Minneapolis stamp sound of the 80's----but in a much more artistic and excellent ORIGINAL way as opposed to other producers and artists who used the 80's synthesizer and drum machine technology to horrendous very dated results...In other words, I can listen to practically any Jam and Lewis production or protogee artist in 2006 and the music stands up just fine and extremely enjoyable(they knew how to produce the music with a lot of wonderful melodies, rhythm and "hooks" that to this day still catch my attention and ears). Try listening to other producers, and I dare say Baby Face and L.A. Reid's produced material and I immediately think outdated 80's dance music...So, Flyte Tyme is an example of what GREAT music,R&B from the 80's DID sound like when done oh so right !! ;-) ........Other than Cherelle, Lisa Keith was grossly ignored and underrated female vocalist. Bought her only one debut CD Walking In The Sun...while her vocals were great and distinct, the production pretty much had every song sounding the same (as with Karyn White's Ritual of Love cd)...But again those were the early 90's in which the Jam and Lewis trademark 80's sound had taken a different direction or update to compete or fit in with the New Jack Swing sound back then.
