I continue to transfer my LP collection to CD and iPod for easy transport and on-the-go listening.Tonight's project was King Crimson's In the Wake of Poseidon, another 1970s gem that hadn't seen light of day in my listening room for, well, 20-something years.
Cleaned and made TT ready, it sounded even better than I remembered. It was oh-my-god stuff. But, alas, Side One, Track Three proved unlistenable as the result of some unknown LP damage. Arghhhhhh!
The wallet "want-list" has a new addition this evening.

Tweaked THORENS TD145 -> Bellarie Phono amp -> Creek Destiny....
Finding King Crimson albums in pristine condition is difficult in my experience. Those early albums have a lot of quiet passages which require a perfect copy. Also I've found the original UK Island's to be much better in sound quality than US Atlantic's and they are in fairly high demand. As an alternative to UK Island's, you might try EG special editions copies. The USA version sounds pretty good and is usually easier to find and cheaper.
I had a stash of albums I put in my garage when I moved into my apartment 14yrs ago. A couple of weeks ago I rummaged through some of the vinyl and found a mint 1/2 speed master copy of Starless & Bible Black on EG. It still had the original plastic on the cover and the price tag of $4.99. It was on sale. I sure miss those sales!
