My wife and kids are away at a wedding and I have the house all to myself for a few days; so I did what any red-hot-blooded american male would do ... some vinyl/tube DIY and some serious listening. In addition to my wonderful sounding Ikea-based plinth for the TD124 (of which I posted a few days ago), I also managed to find the time to assemble an SET amplifier kit from Bottlehead - salaciously called S.E.X. for Single Ended eXperimenter.
Since my wife is not as fond of audio gear and cables all over the place as I am, I typically keep my equipment in a nice cabinet, but I decided to put everything within reach and in clear display - right in front of my couch (see pics).
The Thorens/SME/Shure --> Bellari --> Bottlehead SET --> Quad 22L combination sounds great. The Bottlehead SET amp is only a couple of watts, but whatta couple of watts! Even with the relatively low-efficiency Quads I get more than enough volume for regular listening and this is one of the least fatiguing system combinations I've put together.
I thought I'd share this with fellow vinyl asylum mates before my family comes back and the gear has to go back in "hiding" ...
Alberto
PS If you have ever used a soldering iron without injuring yourself or setting the house on fire, you should be able to build the Bottlehead Single Ended eXperimenter (S.E.X.) amp in 8-12 hours. For ~$350, it's one of my best audio purchases.

One day when I learn to post picys, I'm gonna show the monster rack that I built to house my rig so that everything would look pretty. I almost hate to buy a new piece of equipment because its a pain to move anything in that "pretty" rack. I can't wait till I can build my room where I can have open racks

Hey, thanks for putting a smile on my face.Your set-up looks perfect.
It's people like you, sir, that make this hobby so fun.
...has horrific tastes, so she must allow for my excesses. As a result, we have essentially divided the house into a trailer trash tacky section and an artistic sophisticated section. She resides precariously with her dog figurines and God only knows what else, while I sit quietly with my beautiful wires and lithographs.
Something about a macine gun???

The woman listens to Fleetwood Mac...
The Peter Green and Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer and even Bob Welch material is quite good.Uh, on second thought, d'ya mean exclusively the later variety, with Buckingham & Nicks re-hashing the same songs?
back then, you would have said "No"?Or didn't you ever make love to a space cadet?
If I had more money, I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LP's!
