  Al You're more right than you know, except it's basically a cheapened Signet (decent grade cartridge) not one of their better cartridges either.

  I also heard a rumor that the bastards at Clearaudio don't even have the common courtesy to give anyone a reach around ;-)

    It doesn't meet Signet levels. At first, that is what I thought too, but the Signet has superior features, and the Signet easily beats the Linn K9 in both areas of construction and sound. Both are extremely good trackers, but the Signet 5.0 line contact is a wonderful cartridge by any standard while the Linn falls short of the mark in several parameters. Quite by chance, I remembered that I owned the Linn, and I believe that Al is most likely right as to the corresponding Audio-Technica equivalent, except that the Linn and probably the Clearaudio have far superior stylus assemblies. That may be one area that they have in common with the Signet series. The Linn K9, for example, has a stylus that appears to be the exact same as the exalted Grace F9E. It is a wonderful tip, but unfortunately the rest of the K9 isn't to that standard. As a result, it misses 90% of the Grace's magic. The Signet stylus tip is entirely different. All of the 5.0 series have nude mounted square shank tips that are much smaller, regardless of their particular cut.

      I've read that before and they do look similar.
