Yeah- I've not confirmed it, but with the pivot well above the LP surface, VTF should vary more w/warp. Frank would know. I'll play with my VTF gauge later & check it. Shorter cart.'s may have an advantage over tall ones with this arm.Seems like this is the main (only?) trade-off with my arm. The rest makes up for it, to say the least :)
Too bad the goddamn disc-flatter thing makes records noisy (personal experience).
Follow Ups:
A proper vacuum holddown system is absolutely, unequivically silent. It certainly does not "make records noisy"; in fact, you never "heard" it so quiet. So you must mean some sort of clamp or other. The Sota Reflex clamp is for impedence on their big tables; it is not for flattening records. Center clamps often wind up actually lifting the outer edges of discs, and of course this does contribute additional noise, just as any uncoupled LP on a "normal" 'table. I would guess that those stupid "ring clamps" overload the bearings of all but a handfull of TTs, and in any case would alter the character of system resonance, likely exciting bad subsonics.Try the Sota vacuum rigs. I have the "bottom" Star model. It has not required service in 16 years and remains dead silent. The bigger, considerably more expensive models do a TINY bit better with perfect instrumental "weight" and focus, given an "unexciting" cartridge that gets it right when given a chance.
If you are in Chicago, Sota is nearby.
Enjoy the Schroder.
