This is a 1959 recording. Obviously they had learned a lot in the intervening years about recording in stereo. Here we have a very natural sound stage and no hole in the middle. Great recording on all counts! I have the Classic Records version.

I'm a major jazz fan but not much for big band jazz. The major one among a few exceptions is Basie. His music just swings, and always has enough great soloists to make it interesting. I love his small group work too. This appears to be a septet.
