I forgot to mention Claudio Arrau's recordings of Chopin on Philips. Wonderful and silent!
Follow Ups:
It is very good indeed.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
No, I have the complete set of his Chopin recordings. The concertos are probably great as well. There's also a box with his nocturnes.

...I'm sure the price wouldn't be anywhere near $95. Probably more in the $30 range.
Another label I really like besides London is Chandos. Released a lot of outside the standard repertoire work.

Yes, Chandos can be great. I just got this disc for $95! It was the cheapest around. Very few copies available. Beautiful recording with subterranean bass. A thin pressing and not the best vinyl but a winner sound wise nevertheless.
Had I seen this, I probably would have tried this first.
Some of it pressed by Lyrita. An underrated label.
Not much demand for classical music anymore, which is fine with me. Local store still has most of its classical inventory priced at $3-$4 per LP.

Sort of sad that Classical has taken such a backseat. So much great music out there. Looks like the present generation will pretty much confine it to the scrap heap!
