Cougar - since you like the phonos you should find a Chord dealer and listen to the Qutest model. I have been enjoying mine for almost a year. It is small and uses very little power. It does not use a DAC chip, is uses a custom programmed FPGA device. It has input connections for usb, optical, and bnc connectors. I am currently using a battery power supply to run the Qutest. If you are into the Audio Science Review site they give it one of their highest ratings ever. The Chord products forum is at head-fi, see the link below

Thanks for the recommendation but I'm pretty sure I will be getting he Schiit Yaggy.
I Have a Bluesound Node 2i and I saw some threads on other forum while I was doing some homework on DAC that the Chord match up well with the Node 2i. I don't like the fact that the Qutest on has BNC and Optical inputs. Yes, I can order some BNC to RCA interconnects but for that kind of cash it should come with them in the box. Also seem to not be just a plug and play, seems to have some firmware downloads also.
Cougar - We have parallel situations. Getting the phonos put my vinyl side well ahead of the digital side. I went looking for a new DAC and thought I would end up with the Yaggy so I got a BiFrost to see if I liked the house sound. It was such a bad match to my system that I started another search and ended up with the Qutest.
SS or Tube gear? mine is half SS and half tube. I have been reading up n the sonics of the Chord Qutest, seems good but may not be a good fit for my system, just wish I could try before I buy. At least with the Schiit Yggy I can return it if I don't like like it. I have ready a few reviews the Yggy does need to be left of on and with music for about 10-15 days before any serious listening to done.
The link should get you to my system
