I'm a huge Cowboy Junkies fan. Seen them live over a dozen times. I have found that you either really like them or you don't.
I have that album on every LP version ever released. IMHO, the Classic Records 45RPM set is the best, but all of them sound pretty good.
Follow Ups:
I sat and listened to the 2 lp's again ...- the music ir really good, instrumentation and arrangement with first class musicians. This time I got the lyrics and read them along with each song...- much better...- really enjoyed it this time.. I guess it is inescapable that the voices get a little lost in the mix considering the nature of such a minimalist live recording with a lot of ambiance...-
I've been watching movies with subtitles on since I was 72 but a recent listen to the Classic Records re-issue found no fault with intelligibility.
Unintelligible Pop Music lyrics are certainly nothing new:

This happens with a lot of recordings. Even if I can hear the lyrics clearly, I often don't understand their meaning and have to Google it for analysis. I find it rather frustrating. What happened to present day lyrics compared to those of past times like Sinatra songs? It's like song writers are trying to be obtuse. I guarantee if I ask the average person who's heard Bob Dylan to analyze a song line by line, the vast majority would fail badly.
Charley Patton recorded "High Water Everywhere," and there was only one guitar making background noise.
