Asking for a professional colleague of my wife.
"Does anyone have experience removing acrylic adhesive from the grooved surfaces of vinyl records?"
Some are paper labels, some are plastic labels. They were accidentally place on the grooves about two weeks ago. They are pressure sensitive labels.
Any suggestions?

The acrylic adhesive will probably have Hansen numbers around 17, 9, 7. I don't know the solvation radius but it is possibly around 5.PVC has Hansen numbers around 18.4, 6.6, 8 and a solvation radius of 3.
It is very hard to find a solvent that will dissolve the acrylic without damaging vinyl. The best I can come up with is 60% diacetone alcohol and 40% eucalyptus oil. This gives Hansen numbers of 16.2, 6.8, 7.8 and thus a solvation distance of 2.9 from the acrylic adhesive and 4.5 from the PVC. Since the solvation radius of the adhesive should be larger than that of the vinyl, this might work.
Diacetone alcohol is only available from specialist suppliers, the CAS No is 123-42-2 (if you quote the CAS No to the supplier it makes sure you are both talking about the same substance)
Also be careful with the supplier of euky: since the explosion of interest in non petrochemical solvents it has become very expensive (I pay $90 per litre for the stuff I use) so there is a lot of fake crap on the market.

dissolve the vinyl, so alcohol is the only choice. Of course, most folks will recommend against using alcohol, but what choice do you have. Washing the record soon after using alcohol would be advisable.
I use lighter fluid for removing stickers on record jackets, but I couldn't find any information concerning lighter fluid(naphtha) and acrylic adhesive.
