And as one who's been loud on the subject of ears (see what I did there?) it's good to have a starting point.
Follow Ups:
My starting point is always parallel and then I....ok I admit it, i just leave it at that. I've swapped in many a cartridge lately and haven't adjusted it one bit, maybe they are all the same height? I suppose I could mess with it but i'm not sure what i'm listening for.
I have to admit, if you don't know what you are looking for, positive results will be a bit tougher to secure.
In addition, the harder one tries to hear an effect, the more the brain wants to make crap up and move on.
However, if you have the ability to more the vta during play, once you sweep the general angle, the correct setting will pop out, as correct. I mostly leave such fine tuning for special occasions, like when I crack open a new record of special quality.
personally I think the gizmo is trying to apply a finite solution to a variable situation.
However it does open up the possibility to sell a version for 200 gram, records, 180 gram records, and a deluxe set to cover all the different cutter head angles used through the years, with a little approximately disclaimer on the back, in fine print, so as not to spoil the fun.
