I had a Micro Seiki BL-111 turntable for about 36 years. Has anyone owned and used a turntable for a longer period of time? I'm sure the answer is yes, so please share. Thanks.
Follow Ups:
I can't match 36 years. I bought my Elite (Townshend) Rock second hand around 1989. Mostly I used it with a Rega 300 and DV17D2. The bearing needed resetting once which meant a trip back to Townshend, it also went back for a suspension upgrade. Around 10 years ago I replaced the Rega with a Naim Aro and dispensed with the trough, still using a dynavector but now a D3. Other system changes had made the Rega sound rather grey in comparison. Since 2017 the Rock has been a second deck, lately with a mono wired London Decca cartridge and the damping trough is back in use.
I've only owned one turntable at a time, except for a few nomadic years when I didn't own any.Acoustic Signature Samba = 2006 - present (15 yrs)
Rega Planar 3 = 1999 - 2006 (7 yrs)
Philips GA 312 = 1980 - 1999 (19 yrs)
Dual 1229 = 1971 - 1978 (7 yrs)
Garrard changer = pre 1971Each was sold to finance its successor except the Dual, which was pawned to settle a debt. I still miss it.

18+ years now. Might be my oldest table now.
I don't have an idler any more and all my mid-70s direct drives have come and gone.
Bought it the morning the space shuttle Columbia blew up, we heard the sonic boom at a garage sale, 15 minutes later, while I was packing up the table (original box, shrink still on the unused dust cover, Signet 5.0ML cartridge still in box, not even mounted) we heard the news on the tv the garage sale couple had on in their garage. Fine table

resistant with its spring suspension. I figure most of the rest is up to the cartridges. tbh, most of my playing is done on a Technics SL1200 MK V in another room. Need to get back to that Yamaha> Emotiva> NAD> Paradigm system

I just couldn't pass it up, when I saw it at a garage sale. Too many tables, and no time at 75. I have been playing with cartridges instead.
I think those days are long gone. Mine was, as far as I can tell, new and, at $150 with a new t.o.t.l. line Signet cartridige, a steal at that price. FTR, the suspension failed on the Signet years ago :(

a Signet TK10 ML new in the box, but I have never installed it. It was hidden away in a closet, and I always forget that I have it. I don't change things very often.
I am really thankful that I was able to start collecting records and vintage electronics back in the early 90s. Before that, I was too busy working and playing to bother with the stuff. I always said that a poor college student or poor young worker could pick up a decent system from a thrift store back then, but no more.
I've owned a Pioneer PL-516 since 1979 (42yrs) when purchased new as part of my first official audio system. It lives on in a basement exercise room system and gets used mainly in the Winter months here.
I also purchased a Dual CS-5000 in 1987 (34yrs) that is in the main system.
It has survived every itch I've gotten to get something newer and in theory better sounding over the years.
My Planar 3 I bought used in 1985 or so, with Grace 707 arm and F9E cartridge. I've done some mods on it in recent years and it sounds better than ever. Still has the Grace arm, and I still have the F9E but it isn't on the turntable.
2 winners here. My original fons CQ30 circa 1975 with Grace 707/F9e I won in a sales contest from the reps, Electronic Marketers and my original Linn Sondek LP12 w/afromosia plinth, 3009II and Supex MC. My runner up, currently in use, is my original 1978 Rega Planar3 with hotrodded RB300 and Elys2.

I have owned a mid-level Technics since the late '70s but the one I have spun the most revolutions is an ROK B-12H with a very nice modern arm and a custom plinth. The ROK drive unit is as old as I am, 1959 and manufactured in my home town but, unfortunately, I was not spinning it upon my birth! My incarnation is about 15 years old but I will probably not ever change it out at this point. The sound is just too good!

I have a VPI 19 Jr. that I purchased before my daughter was born - 22 years ago....
I did upgrade to an SME 309 after a couple of years-
Happy Listening
and gave it to our preacher two years ago. He loves it.
A VPI Scout essentially replaced it years ago.
I've owned far too many tables.Don't think I ever kept one longer than 3 or 4 years. Some years I had 3 or 4 tables.
I'd like to think my latest table will change the pattern.

...the question is: who has kept their equipment rack the longest! :)
Does it count inheriting my late father's old Philips 212 from the early to mid 70s and the Dual 505mk3 he bought in 1987? Otherwise it would be the SL1200 I bought in 1997...

I bought a new Philips 212 in 1973, often called the poor man's Thorens. I keep it for use with high compliance carts I have: a Stanton 681EEE and an Ortofon OM30. My main table now is a Kenwood 770D, one of the coreless and slotless direct drive models.
I owned a Phillips GA212 back in the 70's when it was all the rage. I hated it compared to my Thorens TD165 turntable. It seemed like a toy to me and I unloaded it quick. I used it with a top line Pickering cartridge.

most of us...very hard to explain why you're mad, even if you're not mad..."
That was pretty much the combination my dad used: a Stanton 681EE (original 2 coil version) with the Philips 212. Great sounding combination to my unsophisticated ears at that age!

Bought new from Guitar World for $400 in 2005, used it until 2017. Had three different tone arms on it.

The AC-1 is a Musical Fidelity head amp.
Needed a better table, already had a Magnepan but this rig was only 630 out the door for a consignment sale at the store. All still in good shape as I was not used for a few years now and then and now I have a few different tables but that is the longest owned TT.
I have longer owned tonearms and cartridges.
Turntable I've had the longest is my "daily driver" Technics SL 1200Mk2, purchased new 40+ years ago.
But my newest-to-me table is also the oldest one age-wise, a beautiful 50+ year old Pioneer PL 41.
I go through cycles of downsizing, but I'm now back up to six tables. Where does it end? (asks the guy already in an "asylum")
...it was also the first loan/credit that I ever applied for. The system was a Dual 1019/Shure cart, Sansui receiver, and Sansui speakers. I still have the Dual but it now needs some serious restoration. Maybe someday. Anyway, the cart may still be on the table; I did replace the stylus several times when, for many years, it was my daily driver.

Found a Thorens TD145mk2 at a flea market at the beginning of this century. It turned me back to vinyl. Fixed up dozens of vintage TT, sold most of them on. Still have the attic full of TT. Spinning now with a 1970 Sony 2250 DD TT. Reliable, solid TT.
"The torture never stops"Greetings Freek.
Over the past 45 years, my record is only 5 years... a Thorens 124. I'm on year 2 of my latest.
Hello everyone,
I have had a Technics SL-110a (originally with its own arm as 1100a) since the early or mid 70's. Other, older tables have joined it. The Technics never needed repair and works fine, though I plan to replace the caps soon.

I have a Dual 1219 purchased from the Berlin Brigade Audio Club in 1971. Shure V15 Type IV with a Jico stylus. Still playing fine after 50 years. In fairness, it has been sent to FixMyDual a couple of times for his refurb service.
bought it used, with the Basik tonearm, as it was the only "high end" table available to me locally. I replaced the PSU with a Hercules PSU after a storm took out the original PSU, for the second time. Works like a champ. Still in rotation in my home office vintage system driving a Dynavector 10X5 cart.
I had my Michell GyroDec for 29 years . I keep upgrading the parts ( Orbe platter , springs , footing, stand alone motor and tonearm ) . Sold it in 2015 to buy a VPI HR-X .
I bought a Denon DP1250 and Grace 707 arm in 1979. Still in occasional use here in my basement vintage system. 42 years and counting.
my oldest turntable is a Lenco L-70 bought in 1968 for $75. It is replinthed in a heavy plinth, has a replaced idler wheel, a sapphire thrust plate, and a DIY Schroeder clone tonearm. Works great.
My NEWest turntable is a 1976 DUAL 701 -- that I picked up at a pawn shop in the 1990's for $20 (included 2 cartridges - a SHure V15 III and a Pickering XV15-750). It needed a little TLC but it has been replinthed into a heavy plinth to match the Lenco, and I am just finishing a DIY 12inch Schroeder clone tonearm for it to use with an MC cartridge, just for comparison purposes
Both leave me wanting nothing else, and chuckling at the multi $100,000 cost of the monster turntables reviewed in Stereophile. Quiet, dead on speed, and great sound... good enough for my modest vinyl collection.
and been using ever since.
Although with all the upgrades over the years, there's not much of that original table left.

Had a house fire in 1998 and it got smoke damage. I gave my LP12 to a friend who had a large record collection.
Still the same fluted afro plinth (renovated last year), smoked dust cover (not renovated yet) and outer platter.
So not quite a Trigger's Broom.
Same here.
Same plinth as yours, newer style dust cover, and outer platter are still original equipment.
I bought my Rega P25 30 years ago. Still going strong.
In 1928 or early 1929 my father bought a floor standing Columbia folded horn wind up phonograph. I still have it. It still plays.
I dream of an America where a chicken can cross the road without having it's motives questioned.

I bought my Thorens 124 probably third hand in 1974. I've never felt the need to change it.
Linn LP 12 Sondek with Ittok LVII tone arm and Cirkus bearing, Recent upgrades were done by John at Pro Musica in December 2019 that included Lingo IV, core, and general tune up. My daily spinner to this day since June 1980.
DDX1000. Bought it in 80' or 81'. Over 40 years and never a problem.
I still have the Linn Sondek that I bought in the mid-80s. It has had a few suspension and power supply upgrades and a few different cartridges, but it is still the one I play the most.
I have had my Thorens TD-160 Super for almost as long, and it is more heavily-upgraded (Linn Valhalla PS and Akito tonearm). I enjoy it almost as much as my LP-12. Some things are just timeless.
My Trudeau-bashing sig line cause too many problems, so I guess I will go back to ridiculing the portly orange fella.
yes, I purchased my Technics SL1300 in 1975 (or thereabouts) - still working fine, just installed a new AT ART9 cartridge.
So that makes my TT about 46 years old!
I purchased a new KD500 back in '78. Transistorized, heavy faux marble, still keeps speed although it drifts a tiny bit even thoroughly warmed up. I don't remember how much I paid though.
I bought my VPI HW19 with a Rega RB-300 arm as a demo in 1984, before there was even an MKII. Before Origin Live was doing business in the US, I sent the arm to England for their complete treatment. I upgraded every part on the HW19. When I sold it in 2016 and upgraded to a Prime, the only original parts left were the wood base and the power switch.
I still listen to CDs I recorded from it and they still sound great.
