I just heard one of these in a record store two days ago, and I was impressed for use in a smaller room. For a beginning vinyl fan, I think it would be very satisfying. The big negative for a beginner is the $300 price, and one would have to purchase a reasonable new or a reasonably priced used table.
The sound was very clear, and the bass was very distinct (pardon the non-audiophile terms). Many systems this small sound very tinny, but not so with this unit. There was even a hint of soundstage that surprised me. It definitely has a fuller sound than other units I have heard in this size. I occasionally play my 78s on an Audiotronics 300VA tubed classroom player, and its sound does not come close to the Andover unit, which is even smaller.
I am not associated with the company in any way. However, for a person with limited resources in a smaller room, I think it sounds pretty good.
Follow Ups:
I found one on CL for $150. Guy had all the box/packing, so I pounced. At THAT price, it's well worth it. I am using it in a guest bedroom with a Dual 1219. I have never really cranked the volume in that room, but it's pleasant when I occasionally go to read in that room.
I ended up adding some of those inexpensive isolation blocks, which lift it about 1". To my ears, at lower listening volumes, that helped reveal a little more treble. Right now it's probably 6" from the rear wall, which is about as far as it can go in a spare bedroom. I have a few bluetooth speakers for trips and for outside entertaining, this unit definitely is higher quality than any of those...but then again, retail is $300.

...that alone would stop me from buying it. I suspect that most potential buyers would at least want to see the how to connect it to whatever they already have.

Because of the side speakers, one would only enjoy this unit listened from the front. Doing something off to the side of this base unit would sound strange I think.
I still think it is priced a little too high for the audience targeted though.
on the back of the unit for your turntable. I may go by again tomorrow and check it out. The unit definitely has a phono preamp if one chooses to use it.
I was also curious if there were pots for bass and treble. I will let you know tomorrow.
