to the price of the Sherwood S-5000 integrated amp that was so heavily praised on the vintage asylum? That used to be a reasonably priced vintage piece for refurbishing, and untested pieces are now going for around $500. Some eBay sellers are asking $2000 to $3000 for refurbished units.
I do have a lot of the latter Westminsters with the clever covers and wonder how they sound compared to the mono Westminsters. The Westminster monos are still in thrift stores up here, even though everything else I like has dried up.
Follow Ups:
Jerry's Records in Pittsburgh has a lot of them. When Jerry Weber ran the store he generally charged $4 each. The new owner has raised prices across the board but classical still tends to be cheap because there's practically no demand for it here.
I haven't bought any because they're in mono.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
if they're still sealed & reasonable $$ you should buy them, at least a few
you'll probably have an investment grade purchase
regards,
Westminster Collectors Series, and maybe a couple mono XWN prefixes. I have never seen a sealed Westminster mono.
Mostly in the Asian market.
They've recognized the inherent value in those performances/pressings for over
20 years and have been more than willing to pay good money to own them.
