I've had the opposite problem too - convinced that I had a copy of something I distinctly remembering holding in the shop, searching for days and realising eventually that I never actually bought it....for reasons that I forgot!
It does indicate that we probably have waaaaaay too many records if we can't keep track of them or even remember if we own them or not!

because I have lost track of what I do and don't already own. This is in part due to my having "inherited" about 900 jazz LPs, from a close friend. Adding that many LPs at one swoop muddles the mind.
helps me keep things organized, also a good insurance policy list, as they supply values to each LP. Their accompanying mobile app allows me to access the info when I am away from home looking at something say in Tokyo. A final plus is that someday my wife with inherit 7K records and have some idea what they are worth.

and it's a substantial list, but I haven't figured out how to add records yet.
I started a database a few years ago, but after starting with jazz, several hours later I still hadn't worked my way up to Count Basie.

If you are talking about adding records that aren't in the data base then yes that is mysterious to say the least. Adding records you already own to your "collection", you just find the LP you have (correct pressing), and add to collection with the button on the right. The site is clunky as hell as far as editing goes. I have sold around 30 LP's there, stuff I didn't want to muddy my ebay account with, and it is cool because of the ease (except of course actually finding what pressing you have in your hand).
I'll give it a try at some point.
Hey, I actually like Discogs better than Ebay. I've done very well there. Purchases only, I don't sell on either site.
Who knows, I might have bought a record or two from you.

At one point, around 2002, 2003, I was hitting Jerry's Records two or three times a week, picked up hundreds of LPs for three or four dollars and they're worth far more now.

State. I ended up with a box of 80 duplicates. I need a spreadsheet for my smart phone when I hit the thrift stores, or when I search discogs and eBay.. Of course, my local thrifts are dried up now anyway.
