does not look look the top side. I just received a bunch of 301 servicing parts from Perfect Sound and classichifi-shop in the UK.
Follow Ups:
Underside looks great. Top is mainly dirt so should come up OK. Platter is where most of the work is needed. I am in no rush as I use an earlier hammertone 301.
an oil bearing and a grease bearing for comparison. Can you say how much you paid just for the turntable in AU dollars? I am betting you got a terrific deal.
I once paid $100 US for 21 boxes of LPs with 80 records in each box. I ended up keeping six boxes, gave one box away, and sold the rest at a boot/garage sale. I have barely scratched the surface in cleaning the six boxes I kept. Good luck with your horde. Fortunately for me, my boxes were only classical and jazz. No Blue Notes though.
Is your idler wheel still supple? I ordered a new one as well as a new mat. My mat was so hard, that it would crack if you tried to remove it from the platter.
How does your Commonwealth compare to your first Garrard 301? Thanks.
The Commonwealth Electronics 12D/3 is a magnificent turntable and I find it difficult to seperate them.
Both Garrards are grease bearing models so I'll have to keep looking for an oil unit.
I did not pay a cent for any of the stuff I brought home so I just kept piling it in. It was either that or into a skip bin

Congrats on the score! Here in Wyoming, I would call that a "dumpster rescue" mission. Can't beat free. There must a few gems in that lot. Have fun digging through them.
Hi Cactus, I was told that there were 1000 lps, didn't go with a big enough vehicle. Did it over 3 trips. Listening to a great one from Paul Desmond (After Dark) at the moment. There's no way I will ever get to listen to most of these as I have someone coming over in a weeks time to pick out the best to sell on line for me. Glad it's him doing it as I would have given away 3 he took and sold for $120. Not a bad start. Never heard of the group, guess I'm getting to old to keep up with post 1980 music.
