This is one awesome album! Just love the way they "God Bless The Child".
Follow Ups:
Bobby Columby's drumming is incredible.
My Direct Disk labs copy sounds awesome, but I have the MFSL one step on preorder. The Santana Abraxas one step I heard was enough to convince me not to miss out on this one.
Great album- bought it when it was released, and I still have a few clean copies. The second bs&t album is a sonic delight, in addition to great songs. The fender bass, the hammond organs, and the horns were really recorded with great attention to detail. BS&T 3and 4 were also well recorded, as is Al Kooper's NYC you're a Woman. I like Child Is Father to the Man for the concept and the songs, but the follow up album really opened up my ears to what could be achieved with a great recording.

There are many groups I really enjoy, just not enough to have more than one or two of their albums. BS&T is an example of that. I bought "Child Is The Father to Man" when it was released and it remains a favorite. Then the changes in the group meant their second album sounded different enough that I enjoyed it too. However having those two satisfied my BS&T itch so I never got another one. Similarly after the first two Chicago (double) albums, that was enough. I just never felt the need for any more of them.
Some artists though developed enough variation in their performance over the years that I happily kept buying their albums -- Dylan, Joni Mitchell, the Beatles, etc.
Maybe one reason for that is a diverse interest in musical styles. I like variety so that means classic rock, jazz, blues, string band, world music, soundtracks, classical symphonic, even a little country. ;^)

"Still Working the Problem"
It seems to be a 1977 UK reissue. I have an original UK that is like to US cover and is the red/orange label with the center CBS square "camera eye". I am sure the '77 sounds as fantastic as about any release of this wonderful LP.
1977 UK repressing.

Besides multiple 2 eye pressings I also have a newer repressing. A 1981 US half speed mastered copy.

DCT vocals were great.

And there was a better singer who stepped in when DCT went off the range. Name of Luther Kent of New Orleans.
Opus 33 1/3
One of my favorite rock voices Never tire of him

The great actors always underact. It's like they aren't acting at all. Cummings and DCT oversing every song, especially DCT. If you want to hear a great rock/blues singer, check out this LP.
Luther Kent and Trickbag's "It's In the Bag"

Another one of my favorites. I take it you don't care for Robert Plant or Roger Daltry either. I love them.

As Led Zep's lead singer. Reid turned him down.
If it's true, has to be one of the biggest blunders in the history of popular music on Reid's part.

DCT dosen't get the credit he deserves, highly overlooked. Great singer and one that stands out. I think he was the perfect fit for BS&T. Kind of like Lenny Williams of Tower Of Power, they had many good singers but when I think of Tower Of Power I think of Lenny Williams. Hubert Tubbs was good as well along with Rick Stevens. When TOP was at it's best, it was Lenny Williams as the lead singer and that is not a coincidence. His singing was a perfect fit for what TOP was doing at that time. Once he left he was not the same and neither was TOP. TOP was hitting on all cylinders when they had that Band From 73-75.As for DCT and BS&T, he was the perfect fit for what BS&T did on that album. After that album they were ok until BS&T 4 and that album was another good one. Just my opinion as a musician. Don't get me wrong, I liked their first album but the second one was the best for me and what I like.

2 was my favorite as well. I'm also quite fond of Nuclear Blues.

I have an original (with a few flaws) and a recent reissue - both sound great. But coming out as a release in the MoFi Ultradisc series, along with Pearl.
